The problem is the Saints was already in FG range. You're basically using your TO and banking on your defense to hold them to a "3 and out" with enough time for you to mount a drive for a FG of your own. If your defense was playing good they would have stopped the opposing offense before they got into FG range, though in this case special teams left the defense in a bad spot. More often than not, I see this strategy fail as the opposing team kicks a FG with no time remaining.
 
Good game. Honestly I was surprised that the Eagles did so well this season. I think in general the fans can be happy about the way the season went.

Now the game in Seattle? Bleh.
 
Gotta give the Saints Defense and Rob Ryan and bunch of credit. Huge win for us to finally snap that road playoff loss curse.
 
Watching the playoff games, I finally realized just how awful network television is right now. The trailers for shows are just so stupid, it's amazing. That's pretty much why the NFL (and the other sports really) isn't going anywhere regardless of what people think about the concussions or the money involved.

that's debatable. On the broadcast, the announcer stated that the kicker was the last man for the returner to beat. Sure the 15 yards hurt, but they didn't decide the game. As you mentioned live, if Philly could've stopped the Saints from crossing the 35 yard line, they probably win.

As you suggested later, Philly should've surrendered a rushing TD to preserve at least a minute of time for one last drive. This is hard because the Saints were still 24 yards out when they began milking the clock. The defense could've stopped playing, but then the running back could've just walked slowly inside the 10 yard line with no intention of scoring.

But letting it play out is really just hoping the kicker chokes.

Mike Holmgren famously surrendered a TD in the Super Bowl hoping to give his team one last crack or two at a miracle.

I didn't see the replay, but they did say that the only person between Sproles and the TD was the kicker. The horse collar was an acceptable penalty.

I was telling myself that this year's playoffs will not be as good as last year's. I didn't want to get excited and then have a bunch of blowouts and let downs.

2 games in and I think I am safe to get excited. I can't wait for the SF/Packers game. I don't have a dog in the hunt but I have a sports chubby the size of Andy Reid over that game!
 
Can you imagine what the Colts could do if they ever started playing before the 3rd quarter? That has been their whole season. Why can't they get up for the game and be ready from the get-go? I don't know, but that was a great game to watch, even though I picked the Chiefs to win I have no stake in either team and I thought whichever team won would go on to lose next week.

Andy Reid is still hands down the coach of the year in my book. When dopes started talking about The Chiefs as the best team in the NFL, and having some elite defense after having the easiest first 9 games on a schedule in NFL history, that was retarded. But still, they were 2-14 last year, there's no denying a humongous improvement. Maybe next time double team T.Y. Hilton, though 😉 (not sure if that's more on the def coordinator than Reid or equal blame). Though they still put up 44 on the road in a playoff game without their best player.

The last long TD pass from Luck to Hilton was very similar to a long Luck to Hilton TD pass last year when the Colts owned the Texans and cost them the #1 playoff seed, so there was film to study on it. 😀

No. Andy Reid did a great job but he SHOULD NOT be the coach of the year. Reid inherited a 2-14 team and took them from worst to first but this is deceptive. That 2-14 KC team still had 6 pro bowlers. The last coach just f'ed up royally from a coaching standpoint but KC had a ton of talent on the roster. If Reid took them deep in the playoffs, I can accept him being the coach of the year but a "one and done" with that much talent and how they pretty much backed into the playoffs? No.

IMHO, and this is not being a homer, Chip Kelly did a much better job considering the talent level that was on the roster when Reid left Philadelphia.

Also, as much as I hate him, Bill Belichick did an amazing job considering how many players were lost due to injuries. I hate Belichick and I know he has Tom Brady, but that team is over performing considering how many players they lost.

Bruce Arians in AZ also did a great job and I'd rank what he did over what Andy Reid did.

I agree with all of this.

Reid played an easy schedule with a team though 2-14 last year, had a number of talented players and added a better QB. Even with the injuries, I'm dumbfounded why Reid didn't double Hilton the whole game as he is Luck's only above avg receiver.

Thanks for what? Having a lower YPC average than any other RB on the team, including Khiry Robinson? Ingram doesn't even deserve to be the change of pace back on most teams, and is so obviously inferior to Pierre Thomas it isn't funny.

What I didn't get was why Hilton wasn't drawing a double-team, he was burning the crap out of them, wound up with 13 catches. Maybe they did try to double him but just still could not get it done..

Yeah, I have to agree, though I do think Reid did an amazing job. Being able to get a very talented team to play well is a challenge in itself--look at what Harbaugh did to an equally talented and underperforming SF team.

But, considering the challenges, I'd have to go with Arians for doing what he did in possibly the toughest division this season. Chip was great considering what he was coming into, but damn--how could no one dominate that division this year? sad...
 
CoY is a regular season award, Andy Reid's team choking yesterday has no bearing on the voting. Chip Kelly did a solid job as an NFL rookie, but the Eagles were called a dream team during 2 previous seasons. I don't know how much drop off in talent happened in the offseason, but I doubt Kelly inherited a barren cupboard.

Also take into account the AFC West qualified 3 playoff teams including the Chiefs while the NFC East was derided for much of the season. As a casual observer, I'd say Reid is at least as deserving as Kelly.
