bumping so people disuss Kitchen Nightmares in this thread rather than the Hell's Kitchen thread...

the American version is pretty awful compared to the UK version. thanks yet again, FOX, for pandering to the lowest common denominator

I usually watch My Family on BBC America but before that, they play Gordon Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares. I know these are all the reuns of the shows at this time, but it seems they only play the same 3 or 4 episodes of Kitchen Nightmares.

Saw 3 episodes so far (Peter's, Seascape, Olde Street Mill) and loved them all. All three are in pretty close proximity of my home. Yikes!!

A lot of it is fake. If you notice last night the mayor came in it was daylight but all the screaming happened when it was dark. Probable a reshoot later to make it more compleing.

I noticed that in other tapings as well. Soemthing happens and its daylight then its night then back to daylight like it all just happened at the same time.

Well, if you figure that the mayor arrived at 630-645pm and it took them a hour to get the food that would put it at about 730-745 or so which would make it dark out.

I'm not saying your wrong....it quite possibly could be fake.

Gordon is the man. He figures out what niche to fill, and how to help that guy pay his like 5 mortages.

It's entertaining, but the BBC version is much better. The BBC version is more of him speaking and more of him mentoring. The FOX version is typical American "IN YOUR FACE" yelling and screaming accompanied by loud music crescendos.

seriously. if you enjoy the FOX version and have not seen the BBC America version, do yourself a favor and check it out. i can't imagine anyone preferring FOX's version if they've seen both.

Does the BBC version go by the same name? Where would I be able to view the show if my cable provider does not carry BBC?

Same name. It airs on BBC America which is carried by Comcast and probably Direct TV. There's some clips on the site I linked, and I've also heard of a thing involving a series of tubes which might offer some episodes

I am enjoying the show and really like Gordon. He is the type of man we need more of in this world...meaning, not a pvssy who will say what he thinks should and totally ignores the PC movement.

Gordon also kicks ass as the leading on Top Gear's celebrity lap times board.

I don't agree. The europeans are softer in fighting back, and either step it up, or shut up and quit. The americans have bigger egos and get in more pissing matches, so ramsey is harder towards them.

But noone knows how to shred and ego and build it back up like ramsey. Yet they all seem to respect him more for it when its said and done, because in all his expletives, he's really a motivator imo, and knows the restaurant business as good as anyone as well.

wow, other people like the show as much as me.

i started out watching the BBC version when i saw it comcast's tvguide one day over the summer so i started DVR'n it. i then heard they were going to releasing a USA version on FOX. i pretty much knew what to expect and what would change :|

can't really contribute anything new that hasn't already been said..

i perfer the BBC version over the FOX one because the BBC one is way more authentic and real to me. Gordon still gets in peoples faces but he acts like a human being. And when it comes time to clean the kitchen up and remodel everyone that works there pitches in and does it. In addition, the interviews where the workers talk to the camera are done real time while they're in the restaurant out front, or in the kitchen etc.

also, i enjoy seeing restaurants in europe and all these places i've never been to, but that's not really something FOX can control.

In the FOX one the responses are all taped later in a 'confession room' style just like every other garbage reality show. You can also see in the FOX one how they put special lights on the ceilings of these places and how Gordon is more so of an asshole for the drama effect.

again, the BBC one just seems so much more authentic and like a real restaurant to me.

atleast the american version has continued the tradition of showing Ramsey shirtless while putting on his chef's whites. it always struck me as incredibly unnecessary and thus hilarious.

I noticed in the last episode they didn't have an update at the end of it like they usually do (either that or my TiVo snipped off the very end).

Wonder if the place ended up closing down or something.

EDIT: Also, hopefully toward the end of the season, they do a revisit show.

This show has to be fake.

When they showed the kitchen/stock room of the Indian restaurant in NYC (Episode 3), it was a food verison of the seventh layer of Hell.

Where are the NYC Health Inspectors on this one?! How can this restaurant be allowed to exist?! How was it not shut down?!

i don't know whether to put the finger of sceptical blame on Fox for inventing a fake, disgusting kitchen........or worse, blame the NYC Health Dept. for allowing restaurants to serve DANGEROUS rotten food!!......

There are more than 20,000 restaurants in NYC. Even with a large staff of inspectors, most restaurants probably get at best 1 inspection a year unless there are complaints.

such a good show.

I like this one better then the UK version, as these are a little longer and he stays with them to actually help them out.

er, the UK version is an hour (air time) and has fewer commercials - it pretty much has to be longer than the Fox version. the original always shows him working in the kitchen with the chef rather than having "gordon's team of decorators" (with whom i'm sure he has no actual contact) swoop in overnight and redecorate. much better TV, IMO
