My husband had a lingual phrenectomy done last year at the age of 34. Very painful at first, they cauterized it instead of cutting. His "tongue tying" was so severe that he could barely stick his tongue out to lick stamps. It held the end of his tongue so tightly that I joked with him about his forked snake tongue. He can now just barely see the end off his tongue if he sticks it out as far as he can. I've been helping him with stretching exercises.
It's funny because his dentist and hygenist knew exactly why he wanted it done and who would benefit from it.
