I would have almost thought that some zealots would have been warmed up by it in that it shows that sad tragedy of the fanatics who torture themselves and behave like morons (i.e., promoting the idea that masterbating causes blindness). I guess I'm naive to assume they're open-minded enough to watch it.

I'd like to acknowledge the likes of Bowfinger and Infohawk (and others, I'm sure I'm missing some) for producing eloquent, well-written, and brutally effective arguments. Your post totally and utterly subvert and undermine your oppenents.

Seriously. I'm not being sarcastic. When can I buy you guys a beer? It's been a total blast reading your responses to ridiculous religious zealot posts.

Guys, fantastic work. Brilliant.

And CsG, sorry man...

Edit: Again, I highly recommend this movie to anyone interested in the culture wars. I didn't have an interest in seeing it but I did anyway and I was pleasantly surprised.

I'll have to wait until it comes out on DVD. If it made it to Des Moines, I missed it.

Yeah it'd be a good DVD movie-- no special effects or anything that would necessitate a theater viewing and I can only imagine what kind of extras it would have. :p

The movie was actually fairly balanced in my opinion. Apparently there was wife-swapping going on in Kinsey's circles and he had gay experiences, so they showed that. Not like that has to do with his scientific study, but they don't try and make him look like a saint either. But I thought it gave the religious nuts a fair shake too by showing how they've been victimized by their own bizarre rules.

I just can't imagine what it was like to live in a time where even the BEST AUTHORITIES actually thought oral sex might lead to pregnancy problems (or even pregnancy) OR that masterbation causes blindness or insanity. Sure, some people may still believe that but at least doctors and health professionals know better now.

Ckg, I forgot if you said you saw this movie (thread is very long).

Why would I pay money to watch something about that junk scientist? If it were freely available - I might consider spending my time to watch it, but as it sits right now, I'm not going to go out of my way to watch it. I've looked into the kinsey situation and I find his work is quite lacking.

Now back to the "religious zealot" bashing...

Well... just because you think someone is a fraud-- and I think bowfinger has made it quite clear that you haven't shown that-- doesn't mean the movie is not interesting. Did you not see catch me if you can because it was about a crook?

PS Do you think it's cool that zealots teach kids that masterbating causes blindess?

I don't care if people see the movie, I didn't try to stop it - all I did was show that kinsey isn't who people make him and his "work" out to be. Bowfinger is entitled to his opinion but that doesn't mean kinsey's work is sound.

PS - Alot of things Religious Zealots teach there kids is horrible, and likewise there are alot of things that God-hating parents teach there kids that are horrible. I for one don't like religious zealots - they give Christians a bad name as I've stated before.

(First of all god-hating? I'm guessing you're talking about atheists. And how can they hate god if they don't recognize such an entity's existence?)

Anyway, how do you know what the movie makes him out to be if you haven't seen it? Like I said, it does show that he has quirky sides, engaged in homosexuality and wife-swapping. It even references an allegation that there were statistical problems in his first book.
