Speaking about the demo I find these things very interesting and useful,

We also get some ME3 bonus items as well,

Will I earn items in the full version of Mass Effect 3 for playing the Reckoning demo?

There are two unlocks you can earn in the full version of Mass Effect 3, for playing the Reckoning demo. They are the Reckoner Knight Armor and Chakram Launcher. Please check our Reckoning & Mass Effect 3 Crossover Promotion FAQ for details about both items.

Yes, Origin is required (unless you want to play it on PS3 or 360). From what I've read, it's a pretty safe bet that all major EA releases this year will be Origin exclusives, at least at launch. That includes at least this game and ME3. Anyone have any info to the contrary? I'm still holding out on installing Origin, but I'm likely to crack after work today so I can play this demo.

The FAQ lists it as an Origin download, so I would assume Origin is a requirement. I will have to remember to check when I get home from work.

I don't know if anyone else saw this, but apparently, if you beat the demo (I believe that's required), you get special items in Mass Effect 3 when it releases. If you beat the Mass Effect 3 demo, you'll get special items in Kingdoms of Amalur. I'll have to grab the link later unless someone can get it for me. :)

I watched the video at Gamespot; the graphics look PS2 level.

But if it's a compelling game I don't care.

http://www.joystiq.com/2012/01/17/kingdoms-of-amalur-reckoning-demo-available-now/

The demo for Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is available now on Xbox Live, with the PC and PSN versions coming later today.

The first reason to check out the demo is to finally get some hands-on time with this new RPG from Big Huge Games. We've had some good experiences with it in our demo sessions.

Another reason to try out the game is to unlock two items for use in BioWare's Mass Effect 3. Playing the demo will unlock the close-combat focused Reckoner Knight Armor and Chakram Launcher with explosive ammunition discs.

Seems nice though I had to turn off "post processing" in the options to see the graphics on my radeon. Easy to play with the 360 pad though I think the camera is a wee too close for my taste. I like the "put in junk" option for items and stuff. Not a tech marvel or anything but I think its looks just fine to me.

Just beat the demo, you do have to play all the way through to get all the unlockable items, though just starting the demo gets you some of them.

Everyone has different tastes, I'm certain there will be a ton of people that'll love this game. Amalur has nothing in common with Skyrim, and I think I went in with somewhat unrealistic expectations as a result. Amalur feels VERY much like an MMO, and I've never been fond of that style of game. I think the furthest I ever stuck with one was getting a charcter to level 7 in DC Universe. In Amalur walk around and the enemies are standing around waiting for you to kill them. You look for the red dots on your minimap and you rinse and repeat.

Fortunately, the combat is a ton of fun and I can only imagine it gets better with the later combo's you'll inevitably unlock. Again, I think a lot of people will like this. I liked going quickly between bow and dagger, though I'm not a huge fan of how the shield magically appears out of nowhere when you block. The combat is fun and God of War'ish.

The graphics are middling at best however, they're nice enough but feel like something of a cross between SWTOR and Warcraft 3. Lots of nice colors and the animations are pretty slick which I definitely appreciate. The demo has some irritating bugs like NPC's that don't move their mouths during dialogue.

Speaking of the NPC's, I started skipping all the dialogue pretty early on. Before I had even reached "mad scientist guy" I had begun hitting the "X" button frequently (360 pad). Typically, I never skip dialogue in games so this isn't a good sign. This game also has mouse acceleration issues, the mouse moves too fast in combat but way too slow in the menu's. 360 pad fixes that.

The menu's are pretty dreadful, it's just menu's buried in menu's. Making it worse is that this game appears to be a trash loot bonanza. You're constantly picking up random loot which didn't apply to my chosen character build (bow/dagger). Reminiscent of Mass Effect 1's loot system in some ways. Since I was using a 360 pad I didn't see an easy way to get straight to my armor or weapons selection screens. Maybe there's a shortcut on the keyboard...

I definitely went into this demo with misguided expectations. Open world... to me that means Elder Scrolls, GTA, or even something like Assassins Creed. The maps/levels/areas in Amalur, or at least in the demo, feel very closed and uninteractive. Movement is restricted, there's no leaping off any ledge you see... you're blocked from doing stuff like that. Everything's also bolted down, you can smash crates but there's no fusrodah'ing a table and watching the stuff go flying. There's also no jumping in Amalur, you run or roll but you do not jump.

I actually considered this game a must buy heading into the demo, but it's now a "wait and see". Many people will probably love it, though. It's definitely a quality title if you're into that MMO-styled "there's the enemies standing in a field waiting for me to slay them" system.

Also interesting to note for baseball fans is that Curt Schilling is the founder and chairman of 38 Studios who owns Big Huge Games.

I did not expect much to be honest, played the demo and I do like the combat style, graphics are colourful however be interesting to see what options are available in full version,be nice to tweak them and play on highest settings :) .I do hope we get more options for customizing the controls in full version of the game, layout could be improved for sure and yes selling in shops is poorly done IMHO but I can live with that.

I'm happy I pre-ordered the game so will be playing it for sure, its not a must buy game or game of the year but decent enough for me to buy the game and see how it pans out to the end.

you can pre-purchase the entire game on steam right now, so i figure thats a pretty big YES in terms of it being on steam

Awesome. I'm still stuck at work, so haven't been able to check it out. In recent searches it wasn't on there, so that's good news indeed.

I got to say, I really like it. They give you a pretty big demo, you go through the whole who you are/tutorial part than after getting out into the world you are given 45 mins to do whatever you want. It feels like a single player MMO in a lot of ways. The graphics are pretty average but at the same time it can be beautiful because they used lots of color and it is vibrant, nice distraction from many games using browns and grays as their pallet. The combat was fluid and I can see it will definitely be really cool later on when you unlock more skills and such. The animations are very nice as well and the music is great imo. The character creator is decent and lets you customize your character a fair amount though nowhere near a level like Skyrim. The voice work is fair as well and I don't recall hearing the same voices being used off hand.

My only real issues I had where the menus in menus for like everything. Want to equip that new weapon? Hit Esc, select menu, select weapons, select primary or secondary weapon, than a list of all the weapons comes up. I also didn't see or might have missed it, no way to compare an equipped item with a new one.
Only other thing, and this is more nit picky to me imo, is the characters mouths don't move when talking, not even a standard moving up and down not even in sync with the words.

Overall, this game seems like it has a lot of promise and for a new studio, they have done a great job for their first title. I'm tempted to just preorder it to show support for the new games and I really liked the demo.
