LOL. I do not work for a marketing firm Im just keeping up on the thread.
I think everyone over reads the K10 statement as AMD's killer CPU is coming next month/summer instead of reading it through. They have shown working 1.6ghz it would be possible for them to release just that 1.6ghz cpu's and rely on IPC. After all ATI released the R600 with a die shrink of the GPU only a few months away. The R600 wasnt the killer top end everyone wanted but it was released. Im sure AMD stock will tank if they release a 1.6ghz K10 but it will be released and a few overclocks will show promise then AMD will need to just get speeds up.
Barcelona is coming in July.
The CPU everyone wants (Phenom a derivitive of K10) AMD to deliver will hopefully arrive in September.
Barcelona should give us an idea what K10 has to offer but it wont be the killer CPU answer to conroe. In September the Phenom is the K10 answer to Conroe/Penryn. Hopefully for AMD it will be.
Phenom / Phenom FX will be the brand name for top end desktop parts based on K10 @ 65nm. Barcelona is the code name that refers to the server parts based on K10; it is also widely used as the codename for the family of products based on K10 @ 65nm (i.e. how "Conroe" (Desktop codename) is used and how "Penryn" (Mobile codename) is used). Shangai is the server part codename for the 45nm shrink of K10 I believe and it is also widely used as the codename for the family of products based on the 45nm version of K10.
Thanks HopJokey. I think everyone is getting Phenom Confused with Barcelona. Its in the K10 family so even if 2.0 ghz comes out then K10 Barcelona was released.
Phenom is the chip that AMD was touting as the Intel Killer and that chip might come out in Sept but might get pushed back into 2008. The problem is when everyone reads K10 they think the Phenom is coming.
This is bad because this basically means to me AMD wont have a Conroe answer for at least 4 months still for us on the desktop.

Mitch, I don't think you understood my statement. For all intents and purposes, Phenom = Barcelona = K10.
The first name is simply the brand name AMD is using to sell it's processor based on K10 in the desktop segment. The second name is the codename of the server variant of parts based on K10 which is another codename for AMDs nextgen part.
This is analogous to "Conroe" and "Woodcrest" over on the Intel side. They are the same processor just on different packages for different market segments. They are being sold to the general public under the "Core 2" and "Xeon" brands respectively.
Barcelona and its variants (dual core, desktop, etc.) will be sold under the "Athlon, Phenom, Phenom FX" and "Opteron" brands.

We've just learned that Barcelona K10 will be delayed.
AMD was hoping for a July launch but it looks that it won't start shipping the Opteron 2200 series till Q4.
This will make its financial scores even worse but AMD needs higher speeds and a new revision.
We can only say DAAMIT.

Where's that article that said they got higher clocks with a recently discovered technique or whatever? I thought they were supposed to go up to 3 GHz or something.
This is weird. They overpromised and underdelivered. And now I'm starting to suspect they want to underpromise and overdeliver. Of course, that may help their stock price. MSFT was accused of cookie jar accounting so we know they were trying to support their own stock price which kind of explains why they kept repeating the stock price was too high. Contrarians love that.
But, if they're just being honest this time, boy, what is going to happen to them now? They'll need lower prices just to sell their products.

Ya AMD has been talking the talk for 1 year now . When it came time this week to put up or shut up . They were a no show.
