Sadly I think this will be a disaster for AMD. They had better hope in Q4 they deliver a hell of a CPU. Better be a Penryn killer now.

Well I give you credit for having the balls to admit you were wrong.

Hopefully you have learned not to be a fanboy, and always check your sources before you state absolutes. Quoting rumor sites (or worse) just makes you look bad.

The problem I had goes deeper as I had a vendor claiming they would have machines for order in July. Needless to say I am reconsidering ordering from them.

I have a vendor to blame but I can only blame myself for believing it. Live and learn.

Can this thread be locked?

Why?

Because the OP is full of wrong information? Then again if we based it on that I know a couple other threads that need to be locked.

Then just give the rite information, I thought that's what discussion boards were for...

Because it's already been posted before me?

you know whats funny. The last time a barcelona thread came out.

I specifically said. who would want a phenom when you can get a octo core penryn.

Well true its on 2 chips, but its still octocores. I got flamed.

Penryn benchies came out, and now everyone who flamed me is hiding.

So all i need to say is i will be jumping on the penryn V8 bandwagon. I decided to screw my 8900GTX SLI.

So while people are still waiting for there agendaFX octo systems, i'll be on my V8 penryn having fun.

I believe the OP had more reason for posting than you.

What the hell is your problem? I answered a question which is more than enough reason to post. Troll.

Flamed? I don't think anyone here flamed you. That V8 system is the first word I've seen of any desktop systems running dual quad-core Penryn chips, though, which is certainly very interesting. If Intel is going to support dual-quad Penryns with DDR2 memory, I can see mobo manufacturers trying to hack together workstation and server boards utilizing registered DDR2 DIMMS so that system buyers will have an alternative to FB-DIMM.

Obviously, enthusiasts will not want registered DDR2 DIMMs, but v8 systems probably won't feature registered DIMM support anyway.

All this in light of AMD's apparent delay of any k10 release until Q4 certainly makes things look worse for AMD. Granted, a full-force October release of multiple K10 parts would probably clear up most of their problems . . . but still, that's a long time from now in the microprocessor world.

It also makes it worse for those consumers who are wanting V8 penryn.

You can bet the resources for completing that project inside Intel are tied to whatever sense of urgency management is driven to react to from AMD.

Reduced sense of urgency = reduced quarterly budget and relaxed milestone timeline for deliverables = customers waiting longer and longer to purchase said product at any price.

IRAM-2 for instance...can't be bought at any price and the resources for completing the project at Gigabyte appear to be nearly zero. The consumer loses from lack of competition generating a sense of urgency in the decision makers at Gigabyte.

Yarr, too true. K10's delays are bad for everyone, including Intel fans.

On a side note, I really would like to see iRAM-2 hit the market. However, iRAM has never had any competitors of which I am aware. Maybe if flash-based SSDs plummet in price and people start running them successfully in RAID-0 configs, we'll see more work on iRAM-2.

QFT

I remember back when I bult a PII 350 system, when Intel had no real competition, "average" CPU prices were $400-$500! Yeah, that's what I want to go back to. :disgust:
