Have you ever seen a movie theater enforce the R rating? I haven't. Besides, anyone under 21 is a 'kiddie' in my book.

My wife and I took her brother to see Jackass 2 on opening day- they did a ticket/ID check right before the movie started and 3/4 of the room left.

If I wanted a movie review, Ebert is likely the LAST person on the planet I'd listen to. He's one of the pretentious douchebags that year-in and year-out votes for POS movies like 'Million Dollar Baby', 'Sideways', 'Airbiscuit', 'The Hurt Locker', etc. I would rather listen to freakin' Leonard Maltin or Statler and Waldorf for reviews than that pompous blowhard. Hell, that gasbag said that "video games can never be art" yes fails to realize that the best video games have plots better than 94% of movies and many Academy Best Picture winners.

Million Dollar Baby and Sideways were amazing, have not seen the others yet.

I went to see it last night and it was awesome of course.

I went to go check out this Ebert review everyone is talking about and before I could get to it his front page was proudly proclaiming "Death at a Funeral" as 3.5 stars. I immediately closed it knowing it was a waste of time. If Ebert really thinks a "black-ified" Hollywood remake of a British indy film is worthy of praise yet takes a high horse about Kick-Ass being morally reprehensible, then he isn't worth a dime as a reviewer.

isn't she the 10 year old?

No, she's the love interest of Kick Ass in the movie... and she's 23.

(I expect someone to post the Pedobear "Too old!" picture now :p)

I actually look at Ebert's reviews more than any other reviewer. If there's a movie that looks decent, he'll usually be the person that will give it a decent score. I think it was "She's Out of My League" that had quite a few bad reviews from RT's "Top Critics" and he was one of the few to state that it was actually an enjoyable movie ( while not the best ).

I usually agree with him, but in this case... I think I have to disagree with his odd iron-clad morality. I mean, for Pete's sake, it's a movie... why even talk about Hit Girl's lack of feeling sorry for the tons of people she slaughtered like cattle? She's a fictional character... and on that Leno interview, you can even see her actual self say she was a bit surprised by the fake carnage :p.

Games aren't art. They're games that are played. Some video games having better plots than some movies doesn't change this fact.

Mad. What are you some kind pedo ahole? The girl is 13 bleeping years old. Posting pics and hoping she does a nude scene is way over the damn top. Just because some kid does a movie should not some how be an allowance for sexual inappropiate posts. What? Now on the forum its okay to make sexual references for 13 year old girls? That post referring to wanting nude scenes should be deleted.

Unless it was sarcastic, I agree. I couldn't tell if it was sarcastic or not, but being that this sicko is defending his position now, I must assume it was not. Ridiculous.

Why is there a pic of Dakota Fanning in this thread? She's not even in this movie.

Considering that a movie is:
1) a plot
2) acting
3) cinematography

and that a game is:
1) a plot
2) acting
3) cinematography
4) interactive

there's really only one differentiator between a game and a movie. Movies are widely considered art, and I would venture to say that Ebert thinks they are. If interactivity disqualifies games from being art then someone should tell that to the very large contingent of interactive artists out there (who, by the way, are considered true artists). Face it, the only thing separating "art" like Shrek, Cars, Up, Avatar, The Incredibles, etc from "art" like Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid, Planescape, or Half-life is asshattery.

Dakota is a HORRIBLE actress. I always picture her in War of the Worlds screaming nonstop through the whole thing when they say she is in a movie.

Yea - one's a movie (cinema) and the other's a game. All cinema is art. Games are not.

Is the Giants / Dodgers game being played right now art? Was the Cleveland / Chicago game earlier today art? In the case of video games...video games are played. Because they're fun. Yes, they share similarities to movies, but so does professional sports (plots, characters, acting, etc.).

I think the one aspect you tend to forget about is that with greater technology, video games are presented in a whole new way you would never have even though about a decade ago. In my opinion, the one aspect of games that can allow them to become art is presentation. You must also realize that movies are also judged on their presentation, which is all in part of how the director envisions the movie.

so it seems there will be a kickass2, and probably a kickass3 to complete the trilogy

You know, it probably is a good movie, but Roger is correct. Stories and movies usually tell of bad behavior, and then rectify it at the end. In this case, we're showing some of the worst behavior, and the people doing this behavior are being cheered on and made into heros.

His point is, what will next be acceptable in movies? A 12 year old that goes around raping women to impregnate them to save his family? A 10 year old that becomes a cannibal to save his dog?

We have the right to make and show any movies we wish in this country, but if you don't feel right after seeing them, there's probably something wrong with it's message. Kick-Ass is one of those movies. Probably why it's rated R, yet I'm a little concerned that it still seems to be marketed to kids.

The fact that she looks like my daughter makes me want to track him down and kick his ass.
