I know this country has gone almost completely insane, but I don't see how Kevin will ever be speaker of the house. He's going to get it from both sides.
He'll survive, why? The standards for this country have sunken to such a low during the Trump administration. All bad behavior is rewarded.

Go back into a time machine and put Nancy Pelosi in that spot talking about Obama. Nancy making a fervent denial blaming the right and then the tape comes out. Dems would have booted her out.

I'm amazed how much lying and corruption Republicans will now tolerate and they are the same ones bitching about the increase in crime in blue cities. I guess their criminality doesn't count

CNN anchor right now is an idiot. Paraphrasing, but with all these new revelations, how interested is the Jan 6 committee? Umm stupid lady, Liz Chaney was on the call. She's already aware of this you twit.
From one of his fellow twits, I was just wondering how long a tape of McCarthy on that phone has been available to document he was lying through his teeth. There is a difference in twit world, personally speaking of course, between knowing somebody is a liar and having concrete evidence to prove not only that someone is a liar but a craven coward to boot.

Liz wasn’t the source of the leak. Apparently the authors have not just the audio to back up everything in their book but a whole lot more. This is going to be a slow burn for the GOP.

Its weird that originally McCarthy was realistically worried about out of control Trump, yet later switched to love Trump. But has he really ???
I wondered if McCarthy could be so shaken by what Trump tried to do and so shaken when Trump then survived accountability, that just maybe McCarthy is playing it as the Trump fool so to remain within the Trump mix and part of the Trump mix should Trump win a second term and continue on?

This could be a stunt by McCarthy, a stunt of fear, where McCarthy believes he had better play dumb and stick around should he McCarthy be needed later on during a Trump second term. Needed as a firewall and the voice of reason the day a future president Trump goes completely bananas.

Like the guy in a car with his three buddies. His buddies decide to rob a 7-11 store, but this guy knows that robbing a 7-11 would be a tragic mistake. So instead of bolting and having nothing to do with his buddies insane plan, this guy decides to stay put and stick around with his buddies hoping to someway somehow talk his buddies out of it. The guy knows if he bolts and runs away that his buddies will certainly rob that store, but if the guy stays in the car then maybe the guy can change the minds of his buddies and defuse their plan.

Maybe what McCarthy is doing is to remain onboard knowing he may be needed one day in the Trump future as the voice of reason and the voice to stop Donald Trump.
I seriously believe that should Trump return to power then possibly some republicans do exist, like McCarthy, who realize they may be needed as the last hope for saving America. However in order to save America from Donald Trump, republicans like McCarthy must remain close to Donald Trump even if that means putting on a really convincing act.

This. I mean this literally doesn't matter. Lying is absolutely 100% irrelevant to the line member Republican. "All politicians lie, both sides!" which means there is zero penalty for lying. "Gotcha" doesn't exist for Republicans.

Oh, so Republicans really don't care about "Free speech" after all?

This is news to me!

There was a poll released this morning showing just how much bad behavior the Republican base will tolerate. Fascinating yet predictable. Will start thread when I get hard copy.

It will tell you a lot about those people.

All of it makes perfect sense when you accept the fact that they don’t care about almost anything they claim to care about and really just want to be in charge.

Stockholm victims crave control. They survived by accepting it is better to torture others than to be tortured themselves. It is perfect logic in the world competition creates. He who controls the levers of power can't imagine that we create what we fear. The danger is that the Stockholm victim would rather humanity go extinct then that we re-experience our pain. And thus it is. No exit? Not really, just one we will not take.

Kevin McCarthy Once Again Caught Contemplating Doing the Right Thing Before Ultimately Doing Nothing Like the Coward He Is

The GOP leader talked about reigning in violent commentary by Matt Gaetz and others, then realized it wouldn't be politically popular and did nothing.

The Repubs cornered themselves into having only two options to pick from. It's either keep the lies and deception going into the upcoming elections hoping they'll stick on Biden or, own up to the game of charades they've been playing on their voters and admit they have nothing of value to offer their working class members while directing everything they can steal and loot from the gov't into the pockets of the very wealthy folks who own and operate their party. Well, the choice becomes pretty obvious if they want to keep their voters fenced in and behaving like the good herd of suckers they're being played for.

It's basically become a giant gaslighting operation. Folks you just know you can't believe your lying eyes, listen to me.

All it took for McCarthy to beat this was to get his caucus in a room and say they were falling for the Democrats' plan to divide and conquer them. Boom, no more problem.

In its current iteration, the Repub party is based on a foundation of lies with walls made of misinformation and a patchwork roof made of any 'ol hoax conspiracy their wordsmiths could slap together of which they all could climb up on and view that world of theirs through kaleidoscopes filled with all of those fabricated rhetoric and talking points designed to hit a sweet spot where feelings of hate, fear and suspicion makes them feel warm all over.

In this condition where facts don't matter at all because every fact can easily be refuted by a lie, the Repubs have totally insulated themselves from the harm that facts may inflict on their minds. Truly, they've found the best of both worlds to exist in, being the real one where they can live among their enemies without having to be held accountable for what they do and say and the fake one they've built for themselves where they can congregate and seek confirmation of their misguided beliefs.

It basically boils down to this now. They are so jaded with their "All politicians lie all the time, so nothing matters anymore", that they just move on. What's the big deal. The Republican party is now officially the party that approves of all of their politicians being proficient liars.

Its not just politicians. All the right wingers I know are frequent bullshitters. About the dumbest shit. No one calls them on it because no one wants to have to put up with more of their bullshit, but everyone laughs at them behind their back about it, because its hilarious the stuff they'll bullshit about for no good reason.

I think the main reason Republican politicians weren't more angry at McCarthy over this is most of them share his feelings. Privately contemptuous, publicly supportive. They're probably worried they are on tape somewhere saying the same thing.
