I just can't get over Bob Huggins leaving K-State. I'm a huge K-State fan and I can't believe it.

Actually, I would have thought that he would have been the number one choice from the beginning as I saw no reason for Donnovan to leave Florida. I actually made an off the wall comment at work that Barnhardt should talk to Billy Gillispie when he was in town for the NCAA tournament. Maybe he did! ;)

And yes, this was before Tubby left (or that I even knew he was leaving)! :Q

I watched the press conference/intro.

I really like this guy. I'm behind him 100%. He seemed so giddy the whole time - I think he's genuinely thrilled to be here. Plus his recruiting connections in Texas should help. KY high schools don't seem to produce top level players.

-edit-
It was great - the AD pointed to all the banners in the stadium. "see those right there? You're here to get more. A lot more." Classic.

Gillispie could earn performance incentives up to $750,000 a year and academic incentives of up to $100,000

There's certainly no hiding where the priorities are placed in college athletics. Just win, baby. :frown:

Haha, too bad he's not genuinely thrilled to be here. He was "genuinely thrilled" to be at UTEP. He was "genuinely thrilled" to be at Texas A&M. Guess what? He left both of those places after three years. What makes you think he is going to stay at Kentucky?

I felt the same as you did when I heard him at the Senior's Day game this year and on all the press conferences. He seemed like a great coach who really wanted to change Texas A&M basketball. He did.

His departure from Texas A&M was terrible. He text messaged the players and left voice messages for some of them. He even "promised" his recruits and players that he was staying at Texas A&M.

I still think he is one of the best basketball coaches and will continue to get better with better experience and better recruitment. But I do think he is deceptive and you can't trust him when it comes to potentially leaving for another coaching position.

Where the hell is he going to go above Kentucky?

I never understood why a top college coach would make the jump to the NBA unless he receives part ownership of the team. The salaries are going to be roughly the same after you figure in incentives, endorsements and such. Would you rather earn $3M/year and coach 35 games/year or $4M/year and have to coach nearly 100 games a year?

You also have to consider that a top college coach is treated like a god. That won't be the case in the NBA.

I think college coaches generally go to the NBA, decide it sucks, then go back to college.

Meh I don't think that's always a valid argument. Moving up through the college ranks is one thing. The NBA job is completely different.
