KDS, the worst monitor manufacteur ever

back in febuary 2000 i purchased a KDS 17" CRT, model vs-7e. it came with a 3 yr warrantee. it completely failed after 18months. i figure no big deal ill just RMA it and that will be that. boy was i wrong. the replacement i got started going bad after about 4-5 months. the picture was noticeably blurry compared to a 2nd monitor i had at the time. i put up with this for about 6mo becasue i was just too damn lazy to RMA it and I was using my laptop primarily anyhow. so finally i decide to send back the replacement and the picture quality of replacement#2 was worse than replacement#1 out of the box, ack!. furthermore it would take replacement#2 sometimes as long as 2minutes to display the picture. i would restart the computer and after the comp shut down the picture would stay black for 2min. it wasnt until windows was already up and running that the picture would finally pop up on the monitor. so replacement#2 lasts about 2 days. replacement#3 is a brand new VS-7p, not a refurb like replacement #2, great i think. 8 months later replacement#3 goes bad. a slight burning smell followed by blurry patches on the screen, sigh. and now they tell me that my warrantee was up in october, even though i bought the monitor in feb of 2000.

to summarize:

model, time to fail or become unusable
vs-7e, 18months
vs-7i, 5 months
vs-7i (refurb), unusable upon arrival
vs-7p, 8 months

needless to say i will never buy from kds again

I have a friend who worked at a store that sold KDS monitors. They were very inexpensive...and you got what you paid for.

Sorry to hear about your problems 🙁

i've had two KDS monitors......

a VS195... that was cheap but did the job and has lasted 3 years(sold to a friend 1 year ago) and a AV-195TF that i had for about a year.(sold to a friend 3 months ago)

the VS195, was an ok monitor... i had no complaints, i paid very little for it when 19" were still somewhat expensive.

the AV195TF i got thru a hot deal for $250. this monitor was great, picture was sharp. the geometry needed some tweaking but once tweaked she was nice.(Sony FD trinitron tube)

currently i'm using a Compaq P910 that i got thru hot deals as well... this is monitor is the best i have used in the home.(Mitsubishi perfectly flat Diamondtron)

my next moved will be to dual 18 or 19" TFT's.....KDS won't be one of the brand i am considering....

Wow, sorry to hear that.
I bought a Komodo 17' monitor several years back, cheap, reliable and good color.
Have yet to have a problem with it.

Sorry you got so unlucky with KDS. I never owned one, but I know some people who have, and they never had a problem with it.

I have a KDS Visual Sensations 19" CRT and have had 0 problems. I had to adjust some of the geometry but all monitors require that for the best picture anyway.

Sorry you have had so much trouble with yours. I have a AV-195TF and I love it. My mom has the 17 inch one and so does my sister. My uncle also has one and two of my friends.

None of us have had any problems. I love them and will definilty be getting another if I upgrade my monitor.

schola

I have two, and have had for about two years. No problems, sorry to hear about yours. (Both 19'', I think VS19SN)

I agree KDS are low quality monitors... we were buying them for our company a few years ago and did get many many bad ones... right out of the box.

I've had a VS-21 for four years now and it still looks great... though about two years ago it begin to appear very DARK when I first turned it on. It takes about 20 minutes for it to warm up to full brightness (still like this, but I can live with it)

MAG on the other hand is/was the Worst monitors on the planet! :|

hehe

I had a KDS 17 inch monitor for four years (gave it to a friend at school) that never gave me a problem--and i put it through some kinds of torture. I bought it because it was cheap, and because i'd been told their RMA policy was great. I heard they had financial troubles not long ago; maybe afterwards they stopped making a quality product?

sorry you had a bad experience though.

My A++ Computer Lab has around 40 KDS VS Moniters, I think they are around 17". I'll have to look more into to this.

AV-195TF for me... this is a great monitor(yummy AG tube🙂).... i haven't had problems with KDS's monitors before either.

I'm using a 15" Visual Sensations (VS-550) monitor. Which is little over 2 years old now and still working just fine. When I have extra cash to burn I'm going to buy a 17" or 19" monitor.

I have a new X-Flat 19" and I'm not thrilled with it. At the recommended resolution of 1280x1024 its blurry, but looks great at 1024x768. Thats ok because I like to sit back from the monitor with my wireless kb and mouse on my lap... But I can tell it just lacks some quality.

I have a 17" KDS on one of my computers. With the Trinitron tube, everything is bright and crisp. Been running for 4 years now. The only complaint I have is the loud degaussing. All i have to do in the morning is degauss the monitor and I will be fully awake! lol:Q

I got vs-7e (or sx or something like that) for free from a friend some time ago; it's nothing special, but works OK and also gets recognized under Linux automatically, always....

Several of my friends and myself each own KDS monitors, we have all had our monitor for at least 18 months, with some owning for over 3 years, and not a one of us has experienced any problems. Hopefully you don't have to experience such poor luck with ANY company in the future. I'm sorry to hear of your poor experience with KDS.

Used both VS and AVTs and no problems with them except for one 17inch which is about to go, but lived a long, hard life. 🙂 I think KDS is you get what you pay for.

My family has purchased 2 17" KDS monitors, a 19" KDS short neck and a 19" KDS Trinitron tube. The Trinitron tube stopped displaying completely, and we RMA'd it. Since they didnt have anymore of that model, they offered a 21" KDS instead. The 21" was DOA, likely damaged during shipping. They promptly sent out another 21" overnight, and paid for the shipping of the DOA and arranged to have someone pick it up.

Overall, good monitors for the price, and good support IMO.

Same here. I've had my VS-190i for about a year and a half without problems.
