Kayaker finds dog in water, owner killed by drunk driver

hmm so was the dog thinking it's safer for his paw to get help somewhere in the water?

that guy should get fucked, fleeing from one accident then killing a jogger

Why was the guy in a kayak filming himself fishing?

My brother in law does this to make video journals. Or in some cases to make a youtube video of how to make some flys or how to properly cast. Perhaps he was going to do the same?

Ahh, that makes sense. It just seemed so random at first glance, and for him to have a dog swim up to him in the gulf...just a really odd occurrence.

Wow, so cool he rescued the little dog. Amazing that he was able to swim that far. Obviously distressed from losing his owner.

Fucking drunk drivers...I hope to hell that Florida manslaughter laws give the option of life in prison. DUI Manslaughter should carry the same penalty as 1st degree murder.

I don't know about that. Don't get me wrong, if it were done this way, I wouldn't fight it. But there is a difference between habitual DUI offenders and a 22 year old kid 1st time offender who doesn't know how to control his alcohol. In So Cal, we just had a girl who killed a Cal Trans worker, she had 2 DUI on her record before, suspended license, and she is being charged with Murder. She obviously has no regard to her actions and her multiple offenses knew she was dangerous, and knew she was going to be drunk when she went out (to show intent and willfulness)

offenders should still be punished, and they should make it more under the discretion of the DA to determine what charges to file, but having the different tiers is good IMHO.

No difference whatsoever IMO. He drove away from an accident he caused earlier, which means he was driving even more recklessly trying to get away. He deserves a prison sentence.

Just DUI manslaughter? That should be the passenger's charge, the driver should get vehicular homicide. Or just put a bullet in his head.

The dog was looking for his other owner. They both were avid kayakers with yellow kayaks so he went swimming to a yellow kayak in an attempt to alert the husband and get help. He was probably heart-broken to find a stranger there but too exhausted, hurt, and confused to turn around.

People keep saying that the dog was "lucky" to encounter the kayaker so far out because they don't realize that the only reason the dog entered the water in the first place was to get to him. He was actually UN-lucky to have seen him in the first place and would have been better off not taking that risk and staying at the scene of the accident.
