Interesting. Reuters is actually saying that regardless of if Kavanaugh gets on SCOTUS or not, it's going to be a win for Republicans as far as mid-terms. I say that is interesting, because previous posters here were thinking this would rile up the left and would help the left in the midterms. We shall see - I don't think either side should be too confident.

I think it just shifted the Senate races back to where we thought they would be 6 months ago. Dems have the worst senate map in history. 3 weeks ago they were far overacheiving in polls. Now it's back to where many people expected it to be. Most polling has shown this is hurting Republicans in the house though. It's hitting suburban Republican candidates VERY hard.

Looking at Sam Wang's Princeton site, it looks like Kavanaugh may be hurting Democrats in both the House and Senate, despite losing support among everyone but Republicans. Right now House control is "toss-up", though he shows some optimism about the special elections. This country is fucked if Democrats can't even gain control of one of them.

This whole scenario is a perfect win-win for democrats.

If kavanaugh goes down we avoid having a certified rapist and nut job on the court, which is awesome. We also defeat the turtle at his own game. it gives the democrats an opportunity to possibly even derail any confirmation at all, as long as Mueller comes up with something before december.

I wouldn't be so sure of that. Rosenstein was a Federalist Society member. If they don't seat Kavanaugh, then they'll wait until an ultra conservative is on the court. This is like Comey & Reid right now. They're sitting on explosive shit, but we may not see it until sometime after the New Year.

Yada, yada, yada. Is there some part of *Kavanaugh lied to the committee* that you fail to comprehend?

So we agree that a core part of Ford's testimony was a lie. Let me know if I need to explain it again.

I believe we can agree that trying to confirm the meaning of a couple of high school slang terms from the early 1980's, 36 years ago, is impossible. I can remember in the early 70s when my high school buddies and I came up with slang terms all the time that died or morphed into a new meaning within a few months. Just like today's youth. Groovy, that's cool.

So I guess that leaves us with him lying about how much beer he drank and how often and how drunk he got. Enough people who knew Kavanaugh from high school and college are coming out so it looks like he lied about that to the committee.

Are their any other lies?

His demeanor and attitude during the judicial committee questioning was enough to disqualify him.

I'm really starting to think some senators are avoiding making their vote known to avoid what happened to Flake before the committee vote. Once it's done it's done.

If I understand right, this is just a "test" vote and is more symbolic than anything. The "real" vote is tomorrow, correct?

Dems need better leadership. DiFi and Chuck just don't have the fire and charm needed to make a decent speech any more.

The quality of their leadership wouldn't matter so much if the GOP didn't turn into a well oiled parody of government.

If America can't see that the GOP is destroying everything then fuck us, we deserve to get fucked.

But they have absurd advantages that shouldn't even be present. Moreover, old people, who generally are more conservative, have had the same trajectory as young people in chance to vote during their life, so is there really anyone to blame, but the system that favors old people?

Murkowski votes NO on cloture.

Cancelled out by Manchin who votes yes.

Flake and Collins also yes.

Time for the final vote.

Kvanaugh is going go get through the Judiciary Committee in all likelyhood. I'm not sure but he'll probably pass the Senate and be on the SCOTUS. Let's hope that in any case it works (out very badly)for the Dems who seems to be taking a hit in some states over this.
Fixed it for you.

Please don't equivocate. There's the general headaches of American politics from the past few decades and then there's the virulent strain of modern Republicans, who are willing to rig elections, ignore extremely overt corruption and tolerate attempted rape simply so that they can hold on to power for a few more years.

I hope Manchin votes NO, so we can have the "No Democrats voted for him" rhetoric.

Manchin Yes and Collins Yes for cloture; Murkowski No...let's see if any flip on actual vote but I'm already going to call him Injustice Kavanaugh.

Edit: lol, "Injustice" Kavanaugh!!! That was an unintended Google Keyboard slide error...but I kinda like it!!

Isn't there one Senator out of town for final vote?

Daine's supposed to walk his daughter down the aisle halfway across the country, but some billionaire donor will volunteer him a private plane if he needs to do both; else McConnell will accommodate.
How in the world can you claim Judge Kavanaugh committed perjury when he said that the Devils Triangle is a drinking game when 6 of his school contemporaries testify that " yes indeed, we knew of the game and that's what it was called" and go and describe it and how they played it? You think (if you're capable of thinking at all) that somehow this would still be thought about as perjury?

There's just no reason for you to be such a damn idiot. Grow the hell up.
Maybe because of this...
https://www.cnn.com/videos/politics...erson-cooper-kavanaugh-lied-ac360-sot-vpx.cnn
One clown says differently on CNN, 6 contemporaries send documents under felony punishment if they lie describing the game. Only a halfwit dumbass like yourself would think he can still be accused of perjury for "devils triangle"
