It's as if you're toadying up to the extreme partisanship of the GOP. They want Kavanaugh precisely because he's a right wing ideologue so they're willing to destroy the bipartisan process, withhold documentation & do whatever they can to install him. They don't mind damaging respect for the court in the process. Half the country will never see Gorsuch or Kavanaugh as legitimate. They know it. The fact that they'd accept the appointment under such circumstances tells us that they're unfit to serve.

The GOP has the slimmest majority imaginable in the Senate but they don't represent a majority of the voters. Not by a longshot. Neither Gorsuch nor Kavanaugh will ever be regarded as legitimate by over half the population. But you manage to blame Reid for the profound GOP disrespect for what really should be values shared by all Americans. It's shameful the way they've behaved, the way they're trying to tear down the integrity of the SCOTUS & saddle the country with right wing ideologues at the top of the federal judiciary. I’m genuinely confused as to why you think Reid’s actions were either incompetent or short-sighted.

As we already agreed on before Reid was only violating norms McConnell would not have hesitated to violate now. The idea that McConnell would not have eliminated the filibuster to get these two justices confirmed seems farcical to me.

McConnell was already violating senate norms by blockading all nominees to the DC circuit. Reid made the right call in stripping McConnell of that power because he wasn’t using it responsibly.

I don’t care how drunk they got, kids in high school and college get hugely drunk all the time and I don’t hold that against them. That’s what kids do.

The real question is if the assault accusation is credible. For that you need at least one contemporary account from someone else. Otherwise it’s impossible to know. Being a drunk asshole when you’re 17 isn’t disqualifying for the Supreme Court. Being a sex offender is.

That’s not what I said. I said I’ve posted numerous articles that share my opinion in assigning some of the blame to Reid for eliminating the protections of the minority party.

My assertion and opinion is that he made this strategic blunder from a position of arrogance based on the assumption of inevitability.
