She sure had a sweet voice but the mind set of thinking she was always to fat and drugs, such a shame.

Me, too. I remember the day she died. She was only 33 years old.

I do a pretty good Karen Carpenter impression, mostly because my kids all liked me to sing her songs as lullabies. I got a lot of practice!!!!

Um, no. That was the Mamas and the Papas. Momma Cass.

Karen Carpenter was a singer with her brother and was called "The Carpenters." She died of complications related to severe anorexia.

She had perfect pitch. :)

I've always thought that there was no one more surprised by her success than her. She truly lived the American dream. :)

"Bless The Beasts and the Children" was a pretty profound song but very few really understood the message.

So, if I'm to understand this correctly, Karen Carpenter is to adults as New Kids On The Block are to 80s/90s kids?

Oh, the irony of confusing her with Mama Cass. If Mama Cass had given half of her sandwich to Karen, they both might be alive today.

I cried when she died,
and was Mad at her for the way she died. :(

eat a damn banana will ya!:brokenheart:

Karen Carpenter died February 4, 1983 of heart failure caused by chronic anorexia nervosa.
She was thirty-two years old. She battled with it from 1975-1983 (when she died). She went to New York at the end of 1981 for a year of treatment by a psychiatrist but the damage had apparently been done. Plus, you can't beat anorexia with an hour in a doctor's office. She remained obsessed--or trapped--by it. She was an extreme case and she fought to over come the disease throughout the last two years of her life but she couldn't or she just simply ran out of time. Her body couldn't take anymore. She'd been starving herself for seven years, using laxatives, drinking water with lemon, taking dozens of thyroid pills daily, and even throwing up.

She had the most beautiful voice. I love old videos of her with the 70s look!

I was almost 15 when she died. Her birthday is just a few days away from mine (we are both Pisces). I had always idolized her... I sang in the school chorus and church choir and I would come from the heart like she did.

Unfortunately, I know exactly how she felt about the way she looked. Some manager or critic had said she was pudgy and she never got over it. I remember finding out she died of complications related to anorexia/bulimia and sure enough, I had been suffering from it, too. Knowing that it killed her did help me to pull back from the edge, though.

Video really did kill the radio star... now we have a bunch of sex kittens gyrating for the camera... it's all about looks and very little about true talent. THank goodness for people who have the whole package, like Alicia Keyes....

Very true. nowadays you have to be good looking, as well as talented, in order to succeed. Sad, really. :(
