Kanye West Receives 10 Grammy Nominations

Producer-turned-rapper Kanye West collected a leading 10 Grammy nominations Tuesday, including album of the year for "The College Dropout" which avoided typical boasting of sex, money and crime in favor of rhymes about everyday life.

The performer, who isn't afraid to sing his own praises after claiming he was "definitely robbed" when he picked up no trophies at the American Music Awards, also had a nomination for best new artist and shared a songwriting bid for song of the year from religious rap "Jesus Walks."

Never heard of him either, but that doesn't mean anything. I haven't heard of most of the "artists" that are receiving awards lately.
 
I like Kanye alot, he's one of a few mainstream hip hop artists that don't constantly drab on about their bling bling and their alize and ice.
 
Not usually into rap, but his music is pretty good from what I've heard. He's damn popular pretty much everywhere I've seen,
 
Kanye West is awesome

Edit: He's got more than a few good songs, you just haven't heard of any of his other songs, because you never bought the album, or listened to it.
 
wow if you haven't heard of kanye west i would say you need to get out more often. i mean i dislike country and pop and alternative music, but tell me one of the more popular people/groups and i atleast will have heard of them.
 
It'll be interesting to see if he can rap about anything besides his jaw and Jesus on a follow-up album.

For those that don't know, he is one of the main producers of Roc-A-Fella Records, whose main artist is(was) Jay-Z. Also worked with Talib Kweli and Common. I like to put Kanye West in the new clique of rap called, "The Backpack pack." Artist who have **some** intelligent lyrics. Album was good, too many skits. No he is not a Christian artist for those wondering. Saw him in concert year and a half ago, and get this:


HE RAPPED WITH A PIANO PLAYING IN THE BACKGROUND!

Now this is notable since most rap performances involve a DJ and many pointless people on stage screaming. His singles included Through the Wire, All Falls Down, Slow Jamz (most notable lyric-I've got a light skinned friend who looks like Michael Jackson, got a dark skinned friend who looks like Michael Jackson.) and Jesus Walks.
 
also, does anyone feel the Grammys pick one artist every year that no one heard of really and give all the awards to them? See Norah Jones, and for most of America-Outkast.
 
I remember watching a stand up comic, talking about the religion awards:
"and the award for the best religious leader goes to: Jesus Christ!"
"Thank you, thank you. I'd like to thank my writers, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John"
That's all i remember. The skit was longer and equally hilarious, but thats all i remember. Wish i remembered who he was.

Yeah, I'm familiar with Kanye and I know as a producer, he can lay down some sick beats. However, a good amount of his songs from his CD make reference to his jaw being wired shut, or the accident.

"But i can't complaint what the accident did to my left eye, Cuz look what a accident did to Left Eye"
'Through the wire' of course, and some others.

I still like his music tho'.
