i like kanye as a producer. he has a few catchy hooks/songs/lyrics, but i respect him more as a producer than a rapper. i do like the work he does with fellow chicago friend common (if you havent heard 'resurrection' before, whew! all about that 'used to love h.e.r.') and of course the brooklyn m.c.'s talib kweli and mos def. in fact, on talib kweli's 'quality' album, it was a kanye beat with kwa, black thought of the roots and pharoahe monch. but he samples a lot of oldies and classic tracks that i was raised as a kid listening to by my parents, and i gotta respect that.

im just happy he doesnt talk about the bling and all that stuff anymore. his early demo's had him doing that, but after taking some advice from some fellow underground friends, he stopped all that and even apologizes and thanks those friends on his cd for teaching him that. on that note, new sig time! 😎

star is a quality song. The high pitched singing also has to go, its quite over played. Get by was awesome! You then realize the song is a two part process, lyrics and beats.

yeah, he's been using that high pitched children's like voice for awhile now, thought he'd grow out of it. thanks for reminding me about that. but yes, 'get by' is incredible (in fact, 'quality' is incredible altogether, but dammit, i want another reflection eternal & blackstar album!). even if you listen to the original's a lot of his songs are sampled from, im still amazed on how he can twist and turn a track to give it its own unique flavor. by the way, you know i was going stop by in here sooner or later huh? 😉

Kanye West sucks. He makes some good beats, but there are plenty of producers that have been better than him. Listening to an entire album of his production is nerve-racking, let alone listening to one where he's belting his tool-ish lyrics.

His production and co-starring also helped ruin Talib Kweli's new album too.

Well put. Yes his beats are phenomenal (almost on par w/ Alkemyst, 9th Wonder but not there yet), but his lazy, boring style of rapping just doesn't spark my interest. Every now and then he'll rap about something relevant like in Jesus Walks, but all in all his style/flow/delivery sucks and he should stick to producing.

further proof that pop culture is an abortion.

After seeing him perform, I felt that there just might be some hope for Hip Hop after all. You gotta admit, it takes balls to attempt to bring religion to a form of music that usually seems to be about drugs and gang warfare.

I like Kanye alot, he's one of a few mainstream hip hop artists that don't constantly drab on about their bling bling and their alize and ice.
while that's respectable, his "I got robbed" fiasco was very unprofessional and very disrespectful to the person who did win it. You don't yell that out to the media like he did.

The way Kathy Lee needed Regis is the way I need Jesus.
Is a lot more meaningful than "Skeet Skeet Skeet." 😉

I like some of his solo songs, I like it better when he is featured on a song. Kind of like Pharell.
