This just popped up on my X feed and made me laugh

BREAKING: Trump wins head to head poll against Harris conducted by Elon Musk (73%-27%) with over 5.8 million votes.

No bias there I'm sure. For being a genius Elon sure does some dumb shit.
I quote something I read a couple weeks ago in a comment. "I have always thought Elon musk is a dumb person's idea of a genius."

It’s odd for someone to accept and defend environmental and climate science and then turn around and endorse Trump, even for a bribe.
Trump's promised to set him up with a position of influence. He tried to get such a promise out of Harris/Walz but they weren't interested.

I think last night confirms that all the people that were going to vote for Kam anyway are going to vote for her.

If that's enough.. we'll see! Hopefully it is but she did a good job at not overpromising or coming across as radically dangerous.

I don't think anyone you think is rational/ reasonable can be made to look evil/ unpresidential overnight. Her next big test is the debate.

She has to nail that one.

Pretty good reading of the acceptance speech. Reader comments are virtually unanimous that Kamala knocked it out of the park. As usual, the comments are better than the opinion piece at the NYTimes, but the piece was pretty good.

This link will get everyone past the paywall for the next 14 days, i.e. until Friday, Sept. 6, 2024:

I don't see a problem with documenting the legal ability to vote. You live where you say you live and are legally in the US. No problem with that at all.
I don't. Proof of citizenship is already required, I don't want anyone to have permanent records of it. That sounds like a) an extra step that creates unnecessary bureaucracy, and b) creates a system ripe for abuse by someone for no damn reason.

sometimes the NYT opinion page gets it right. texting with my mom last night after her speech, we both loved it, and I said "she has really grown into the moment perfectly"

she really really has. a lot of people were shitting on Kamala like she had to be the same person who was part of a poor campaign in 2020, and some us pointed out, four years is a long time and she has clearly become better, you have to give her a chance, you can't just assume she is the same as 2020.

I still see the debate as a trip wire.. somehow she has to make Trump look like an idiot rather than be all about policy.

Any debate with Trump is basically a shit throwing contest..

Let's see if he can restrain himself from racial slurs in her presence. I kinda doubt it.

What I'd like her to do is..

Trump: you let 20 million illegals in

Counter: Wasn't your Trump wall supposed to stop em? What'd you do with 38 trillion dollars of our taxes? Gave em away to your sons instead of building a wall that works?

Trump: you will destroy the economy

Counter: You destroyed it by raising everyone's taxes and shitting all over the place. Are you guys tired of always having to clean up other people's shit? Make sure you vote and tell this dude how you feel about it.

Basically make him look like an idiot and bait him to get the C word, N word out into the open.

That's all these "debates" are, period. Anyone making decisions about a candidate's policy from 2-3 minute soundbites (assuming they don't get interrupted, and assuming they stay on topic) is an idiot.

These things are celebrity roasts. They are modern roman gladiators stabbing each other for our amusement. The one useful thing any of them ever did was show that Biden needed to step down. So I guess it's possible that Trump could lose it too but I doubt it. He's been rambling nonsensically for years now, how much worse could he actually sound at a debate?

On a somewhat related note, nothing nauseates me more than these interviews with "undecided voters" after a fucking prepared speech. Really, dipshit? That speech decided you? When the platforms of the two parties are nothing close to the same, you are so addled that this performative art decides who will run the country for the next four years (and possible the Supreme court for the next four decades)?

Some very nice polls for Harris.
Two thoughts of caution there.
1) That is just the typical honeymoon/convention bounce. It usually doesn't stick.

2) You compared a Likely Voters poll to a Registered Voters poll. Harris' major concern is people that just don't vote. Her goal from here on out should be to get those 3% extra registered voters to become likely voters.

Also, as usual, Trump is stuck at 43%. I'm not sure that I see that changing, unless the Harris voters stay on the couch.

Looks like only one was in the field during the convention and it was the smaller RV poll. Think we have to wait a couple weeks to discern what her convention bounce might look like.

Not comparing, just showing some good polls that will improve her averages.

I think it’s too early to see a reaction to the DNC.

I doubt that poll is even counting the convention bounce.. polls starting today and end of this week might better capture it.

I edited to honeymoon/convention. The point is the same, those bounces usually don't stick.

This poll (admittedly from the conservative-leaning and not very scientific Scott Rasmussen) was taken fully within the convention and gave Harris a +2% swing from the week before. https://napolitaninstitute.org/2024/08/23/trump-harris-tied-at-49/

Funny thing is I was able to read the link in this quoted post but kept coming up as paywalled in Muse's original post. Go figure.

I'd love it if the decides to invade Germany and France with everything he has so Ukraine can walk into Russia some more.
