No, I mean things like this. Is the average voter concerned about the prices of eggs even aware of this? Granted I don't know what the rules are when a convention is called, but this is legit re-writing of the Constitution.

This isn't going to happen. It takes 3/4 of the states, which is 38 states to ammend the constitution.

3/4 of the state legislatures are not going to do it. However, I dont know exactly how it works, bit an amendment can also be ratified by 3/4 of "conventions" called in each state. Not sure how this works, or who calls the conventions, but this might be a path for the Reps to push an amendment through and bypass the legislatures. I could see Trump declaring some sort of "national emergency" and appointing the committees through his cronies. Who is going to stop them?? The Supreme Court?

Or, more likely, Trump/Vance could simply refuse to ratify the results of 2028 if a Democrat wins, and try appoint alternate electors or send the vote to the House, if they still have a majority. And of course, Trump has immunity, and the SC is not going to overturn anything they do. I do not like Pence, but at least at the most crucial time, he grew a pair and stood up for what was right. Does anybody think Vance will do the same?

I think this talk is overblown though. If the election is close, yes, Trump will try to stay in power. However, I hope by 2028 people will be so sick of this administration that the Reps will be decisively voted out. In fact, I hope at least one house of Congress, maybe both, will flip in the midterms.

i have no idea what kind of mental gymnastics it takes to think Trump standing there telling Israel to get it over with already as well as having private conversations with Netanyahu to not make anything better for Biden….is somehow the better decision, and at this point I am just shrug stage. Im hoping for the best and planning and expecting the worst.
None whatsoever.
Just tuned out and living in an alt-right reality bubble.

If truth is the signal, propaganda is the noise. It's all just signal to noise ratio. Nothing else is needed.
Thanks to the alt-reality, they never came into contact with Trump's actual words, intent, or meaning on the subject.

Putin probably still having shattering climaxes over the Pentagon getting neutered by his most rewarding asset. What do people like Mathis, Kelly and Bolton think of this lunacy I wonder? "Oh well" ?
They missed their chance to take the shot.

And what exactly were they supposed to do? Stage a coup? Granted, they (and a lot of other Reps) should have spoken up earlier, but other than that, I dont know what they should have done.

25th Amendment exists for a reason. Congress' powers to impeach exist for a reason.

Most of these scenarios probably lead to a secession crisis. If the Constitution just becomes a piece of paper that Trump wipes his ass with I'd feel no obligation to a government that functionally no longer exists because the deal is off.

Quick Chrome search on Bluesky:

Why are people going to Bluesky?

People are going to Bluesky to escape the misinformation, hate speech and right-wing extremism that have intensified under Elon Musk's ownership of X and his recent alliance with Donald Trump. Bluesky's moderation and customizable user experience offer a “refuge” for those seeking a more civil environment.2 hours ago

bluesky is at 17 million+ and rapidly growing....loving the ability to block shit and never have to listen to that negativity from magats. The use of blocklists is great, filter out all sorts of shit from your feed and your not given the shit that makes you angry

deplatforming works (it's part of the reason musk bought twitter)

Network effect seems to have kicked in for Bluesky. I can basically see it sucking users and engagement from Twitter in real time. Now that it's reached critical mass it will accelerate.

Anecdotally it's become the first social app I open now instead of Twitter and a lot of people I know are basically the same now. I'd be willing to pay for a premium tier also which is defiantly not true for the Musk ruined Twitter.

A state convention means that the voters in each state, vote on the amendment rather than the state legislation. Either method requires 3/4 of the states to rattify an amendment. Again, it won't happen.

Pre-Trump prices, for reference in my feed stream (if this site still alive in 4 years and I think to look back to inflation!):

- Gas at $3.08/gal (AAA national average Oct 2024), or $2.65 locally here
- 1 dozen eggs $3.37 (BLS/FRED national average, Oct 2024 Grade A Large)
- 1 pound bananas $0.62 (BLS/FRED national average, Oct 2024)
- Average new car price $48,623 (KBB, October 2024)
- Average new full size pickup truck $65,389 (KBB/Cox, October 2024)
- Latest iPhones: Base/Plus/Pro/Pro Max starting at $799/$899/$999/$1,199 (iPhone 16, Apple, November 2024)
- Median monthly rent $1,619 (asking price, Redfin/Rent.com)
- S&P 500 at 5833 (Oct 28, 1 week pre-election, up 52% in the 3.75 years during Biden's term)

All of these are basically flat or down for the last 2 years, (except the Stock Market climbing to new record highs), ever since pandemic global impacts worked their way off & fed started & signaled major rate hikes beginning.

Really impossible to predict the final net impacts between the short-term hyper-inflationary impact of skyrocketing tariffs, workforce deportations, and huge government stimulus packages (for corporations and billionaires), vs. longer term deflation/depression from global trade disruptions, blowback and retaliatory tariffs ~ if Trump actually follows up per his campaign promises.

Using averages for these always bothered me because there is no cap on how expensive they can be, so the average can skew higher than the median.

It also just highlights that Americans, for better or worse, have been sucked in by successful advertising to buy bigger and more expensive vehicles.

Agreed. What to me is ridiculous is that the best selling vehicle in the U.S., for more than 40 years straight, is the Ford F series full size pickup (of which only a tiny portion of buyers ever use as a work or towing vehicle, for vast majority it is just a 2.5 ton single-person commuter tank/truck). A vehicle given multiple special legislative exemptions from regulations, and which struggles to get up to 20 miles per gallon ~ but is heavy and high enough to decisively "win" most crashes and quite routinely kill anyone else not in a similar sized vehicle.

I mean, in defense of the 'for 40 years straight' argument:

At a certain point, people are just buying the name, not the product.

I only heard about Bluesky a few days ago, signed up today. Hearted 10 offerings and am on my way (they said). I don't have much of an idea how it works yet. When asked what my fields of interest are I chose every single one except video games. I've played a few, bought several, bought Doom around 4 years ago but haven't played it. So, no, I don't want to hear about video games. I have tons of other things to do and think about.

I do not watch commercials for cars or trucks or vans or SUVs. My 37k miles sedan is 27YO.
