LXi:

Reposting from my original thread in the mobo forum (does anyone ever go there???) with some edits.

When I tried to bootup, it refused to finish booting saying that c:/winnt/system/config/SYSTEMced file was corrupted or not present and told me to boot using the bootdisks and then select R for repair.

So I do as told, and now it's asking me for the ERD (emergency recovery/repair disk). The stupid thing is that I never knew about this disk before hand. So now I don't have one, and I can't find one online to download.

Yes I know, the disks are for the specific machines they were created on, but it's too late for that now. Since it's a system file and not a registry problem, I figure almost any Win2k ERD should work fine. I only need the file that inspects and repairs the booting part of the OS...

So if someone can point me in the right direction, where I can download this file (did a couple of searches, no luck) or if someone could post it up, I would be very grateful.

By the way, by selecting repair, and then recovery console, I was able to get into the command prompt. Is the SYSTEMced file on the win2k cd-rom? If so, maybe I can use DOS and just manually place it back onto my harddrive.

I've never used DOS much (got into computers rather late) so could someone write the commands on how to copy and paste a file?

Did you build the machine from gound up with an empty hard drive or did you swap motherboards with Windows already installed on the hard drive?

Crap! I canceled my reply over an hour ago about the Soltek drivers in the orangedelta FAQ section because I thought you said you had already installed those. :( Sorry.

Ground up, empty harddrive. It was running fine for a couple of days, then I installed the Via 4 in 1 and that bus master thing. Was running fine afterwards too. Then At around 5 in the morning, I shut down, this afternoon at around 2:30pm I wake up, boot up the computer and that problem arises. Spent an hour or two searching the net for a ERD to download... nothing.

Actually that new busmaster from Soltek's site enables ATA100 in Win2K and greatly improves performance.

Well... I wish I could, but I can't even get Win2k to finish booting... &$(@*&#$

If this was a boot up problem with Win98, I could've fixed it already... but noooooo gotta have a recovery disk in win2k. Damnit, I don't think Win2k ever prompted me to make a recovery disk. How was I suppose to know!!! I figured the Win2k boot up disks (4 freaking disks) was enough.

dennilfloss,

are you replying to my problem? (i hope so :))

I dont know if its called busmaster or something else. I'm looking for updated drivers that will let me use my ATA33 drive in something other than PIO mode.

I get like 3 mbit transfer speeds. In Sandra 2001, I get scores of roughly 3100. A UDMA 33 drive should be scoring like 8000 or higher

stefan, did you try these: http://www.soltek.com.tw/downloads/drivers/580_3011.exe

Posted before... everyone seems to be having a good experience with them...

LXi. Ugh... damn... I hate reinstalling... I'm gonna just wait for my buddies to come back so I can make an ERD disk on their systems. Thanks for helping though... anyone want to help me speed up the process? Like sending me the ERD or posting it up online?
