Just went 2 Best Buy and they are puttin all there Ps2 stuff out...

I think they are going to lose more than $200 a box.

Anyway, wait if you will for the PS2 and Xbox. I am having plenty of fun with my Dreamcast.

$75 a game? HELL NO. That is rediculous. They will the same price as all the other games.

No liscencing fees? Yes, there will be, but they will be competitive with all the other consoles, probably around Sony or Sega's level (definatly not as high as Nintendos)

$200 loss on each console? We dont even know how much the Xbox is going to even cost! How can you say that they are loosing $200 when there isnt a price yet?

As much as I'd like to trust M$ to keep game prices down, I live in the real world. I expect X-boxes to be premium-priced, you don't. Fair enough. We'll see what happens initially and then 1 year later (their Master Plan may call for gradual price increases over time, you never know). I really hope X-box games are priced exactly the same as PC games. Otherwise X-box titles may inadvertently drive PC titles up and I'd hate to see that!

It's a pretty good bet M$ will take a significant loss with each unit. Component prices always change and as you said nobody knows the final price yet. But it will contain high-end parts. Add marketing and distribution to the mix and you know some serious money is flying around. Plus part of their strategy will be to force retailers to provide shelf space for X-box games at the expense of other platforms. M$ does this today with just about every new PC game they release (though it's other PC games that get shafted on the shelf). This costs money as well (they ?buy? shelf space).

There is NO WAY Xbox games will cost more than normal! Any other thinking is absurd! &quot;hey, lets sell our games for $75 when the competitors are selling them for $40-50! It will work great!&quot;

They tried that with the N64 and it didnt work at all and people were pissed off bigtime.


The Xbox wont be expensive - Microsoft said that it will be no more expensive than the PS2. Also, Intel practically GAVE Microsoft the P3's that they are using in the Xbox JUST so that AMD wouldn't get the contract. Seriously. Also, this isn't coming out for a year, and prices drop quite a bit in a years time.

i dunno... i dont really think X-BoX will be that big... i think everyone will have a ps2 or dc by that time and be happy with it... also that game~cube thing from nintendo looks like it will attract lots -o- kid when it hits

All I have to say is that I'm going to be laughing at people when they find out that their pre-orders mean jack $hit. (search on MSNBC about the PS2 and Toys R Us)

This is, of course, assuming that Sony's little statement of only having 500,000 available was true and not an ingenious marketing ploy.

I GUARANTEE there is a Wal-Mart here that will have several on the shelves that will not sell out. A few years back, when the N64 was sold out everywhere and it was the big toy for Christmas that year, my roommate and I went to a Wal-Mart we know in a tiny little poor-ass town, and there were several on the shelf. People here just can't/aren't buying these expensive game systems, no matter what. Unfortunately, I have no need for a PS2, or I would go get one no sweat at my nearest convenience.

I can't wait to get mine either I pre-ordered it from EB my mom says I can't get it till my first quarter report comes from school though :| :| :| :| But then she will buy em one 🙂

Even people who pre-ordered them are going to have a hard time getting one, unless you paid in full.
