I once started to watch it about 1 year ago and fell asleep. I was very tired then but now my current GF told me I should really watch it. And it is listed second on IMDB, behind Shawnshank redemption, which is my favorite movie.

But now after having watched it i'm clueless. I would rate it low. This movie is completely boring. It's not like I only watch action movies, hell i liked Patch Adams and Lost in translation. Not exactly the most action rich stuff. But the godfather? Nope, I was just bored for 3 hours. The plot line is more
predictable than a bad soap opera. There was so many stuff I said to my GF "yeah and now that and that will happen". And then it happened and she was kind of shocked how I knew it. Well because it was goddamn obvious and the movie boring as shit because of it.

And there is nothing emotional about it. You can't connect or identify with any character. I don't care about them at all.

The worst part is were Sonny gets should: i had to laugh that scene i so stupid and the acting terrible. On a similar level is when he dies (he = marlon brando) it looks ridiculous and I saw it coming 5 minutes before.

Can anyone tell me what makes this film god? I do not get it...

I liked the Godfather. Some acting was good. Some was really bad. Maybe it's predictable to you now because everybody after copied it?

I started watching Breaking Bad recently and noticed it kinda has the same "I'm doing bad stuff only for my family yadayadayda" premise. It even borrowed the line "sangria por sangria" from Godfather.

take a film appreciation class. Srsly.

As a filmmaker*...

...if you don't like a film, you don't like a film. To me, the point of movies is for entertainment. Everyone have different tastes. I've been hearing the kids of today say that the original Star Wars are slow & boring. From their perspective...sure.

Honestly the movie just fucking sucks. I've tried it several times. It's just flat out damned boring as hell. Furthest I ever got was half way through the second one and completely lost interest.

I'm not surprised to see people unable to tolerate criticism of a film they love assume you must be stupid to hate it, though. It's something we often see. I would probably pile wrath on a person who hated Terminator 2 (a massively better movie than Godfather).

I saw this movie when it returned to the theatres back in the late 1990s, early 2000s (can't remember which). One of my favorites.

Wait...is he seriously favoring a Sofia Coppola movie over a Francis Ford Coppola movie?

I love the Godfather and while it is not the most violent of movies or action packed, I still think it is a great film; mainly due to the plot line and acting. I liked the portrayal of the early 20th century with men in hats and trench coats. I don't think there are any movies which do this so well. I liked the parts of the movie in Italy. It takes me back to those villages my family is from and even though we are not Sicilian, the look is the same. The relationships between the Don, caporegimes, consigliere and undermen are always a part of the plot. The villains such as Sollozzo, Barzini and rest of the five families and their treachery (as well as the treachery of Tessio) are all great plots too. I liked how Johnny Fontane is supposedly a character based on real life Frank Sinatra. The sinking of Michael's soul as he loses his humanity when he rises up to be Don after his father's death. His cold calculated moves as he eliminates his rivals, waiting for is father to die so as not to break his father's promise and then have the scene where he murders the heads of the five families while standing as godfather to his own nephew is one of the most powerful scenes. Priest: Michael Francis Rizzi -- do you renounce Satan? All his works? and all his pomps? Michael: I do renounce them. All while the camera cuts to show the various murders ordered by Michael. One of the most powerful scenes in the movie. And finally emphasis on the closeness of the family. The scene in the hospital where Michael saves his father and while hiding him, the old man wakes up and cries at the sight of his son caring for him. Another powerful and emotional scene.

You have other gangster movies that focus on violence and shooting and then you have the Godfather which is in a league of its own.

I don't think I've ever seen the godfather. I keep imagining it being a little bit like the grand theft auto games.

Your entitled to your opinion but I don't get how someone doesn't like the Godfather, it's in a class of it's own IMHO..
