T3 is the best Terminator movie. I don't care for Shawshank. And I think the Godfather movies are fantastic.

This movie left me cold. plain and simple. And yes it isn't an action movie and about the characters and how they evolve and that is exactly were it doesn't excel either. Can anyone tell me why Michael goes from hero to double-murderer? Just because his daddy, who is a mobster boss, gets shot?

If a movies main thing are the characters and their development, don't make that far fetched or irrelevant. I'm Michaels American wife is pretty much irrelevant. You could cut her out of the film and it would be pretty much the same movie except 5-10 min shorter.

Did you even try to comprehend what was happening in the movie or did you just sit there lamenting how "boring" it was?

Only ask because you completely don't understand one of the major sub-plots of the movie, Michael's conversion into a Don.

First, it wasn't that Michael was "disinterested" but instead he was being intentionally sheltered from the family "business" by Vito, his father. Missed that, eh?

Second, when Michael shot the police captain and the drug boss, who were allied with another family (the family who made the two assassination attempts on Vito), Vito was still alive. Vito didn't die until much later in the movie while playing with Michael's son in the garden of Vito's house. Missed all that, too, eh?

And why would Michael do that when he was being shielded from the business? Revenge, a Sicilian specialty and way of life, first of all. And that was explained more than once during the movie. Second, Michael was "used" in the killings because both Sonny and Michael knew the two Michael killed would never suspect Michael of even contemplating such a plan, being that he wasn't overtly involved in the family "business". Missed that, too, eh? That was explained when the plot was hatched.

Geez.....missing/not comprehending one of the major sub-plots and you wonder why it was "boring".

Granted, The Godfather (a very nice reflection on what both Michael became in relation to the Five Families and his becoming the godfather to Connie's son) isn't the first movie I'd choose for a couple of hours of putting my brain in neutral and watching explosions, car chases, etc. (like Terminator, T2, Thor, Thor 2, Iron Man, etc., etc.). But it is an excellent movie if you care to pay attention throughout the movie. Much is explained but you have to pay attention.....something I think a lot of people who find it boring cannot do.

I love the Godfather, but I can see how it's not for everybody.

I can't watch Apocalypse Now. I mean, I've tried many times. I recognize various aspects that make it so acclaimed. But I just cannot force myself to stay awake through it. I don't even think it's a "boring" movie, but the pacing is so slow it puts me to sleep every time.

Honestly the movie just fucking sucks. I've tried it several times. It's just flat out damned boring as hell. Furthest I ever got was half way through the second one and completely lost interest.

I'm not surprised to see people unable to tolerate criticism of a film they love assume you must be stupid to hate it, though. It's something we often see. I would probably pile wrath on a person who hated Terminator 2 (a massively better movie than Godfather).

Ugh, wtf are you talking about? So very, very, very, very, very, very wrong.

You really have to know what's going on to appreciate the Godfather. It's best to watch 1 & 2 multiple times, and even have a movie buff explain a lot to you.

I used to be kinda meh on the movies until someone who read the books explained some of the backstory that isn't very clear in the movies.

The movies are actually much, much more enjoyable once you've absorbed a good amount of commentary.

I wasn't really interested in Godfather the first time I watched the movie back in high school (late 80s). But then I read the book, which somehow gotten really popular among my friends back then, and realized how great the story was. We were such a huge fan of the book that we called it our 'bible', and were having fun thinking that we were going to live our lives by the 'code' that Vito lived by, like Omerta, etc. Around junior or senior year, one of us bought a copy of the book and another friend got this somewhat 'luxurious' (or cheesy, depending on the point of view, I guess :D) suede cover for it, as our official 'bible'. Throughout college, this 'bible' kept getting passed around through all of us in the circle of friends, whoever wanted to reread it, hopping different cities as we were spread around three different universities. Can't help now but to wonder who has it last...

Wait, I digress as that was about the book. About the movie, after I read the book I then rewatched the first two movies (on LaserDisc. ha!) around the time when Godfather III came out, and now that I was a fan, it was a completely different experience. I remember we were trying to watch the first two before we go and watch the anticipated third together in the theaters. It was a bit of a letdown but I remember we weren't overly critical about it. It's still the Godfather world that we loved, so we enjoyed it just fine.

the God Father is about family. Maybe Dumb And Dumber is more your line.

Hey, Hal, what do you think the OP would say about the works of Stanley Kubrick?

:hmm:

Well with that many stuff for him to deal with

Probably that 2001 is a predictable science fiction film that he's seen a thousand times before, and it was obvious what was going to happen at the end.

That it was so obvious from the outset that Jack Nicholson
would go mad
in the shining and that it was over acted

Clockwork Orange would just be a load of mental people doing stupid over the top shit to try and shock people into thinking it's a good film.

many stuff

I once started to watch it about 1 year ago and fell asleep. I was very tired then but now my current GF told me I should really watch it. And it is listed second on IMDB, behind Shawnshank redemption, which is my favorite movie.

But now after having watched it i'm clueless. I would rate it low. This movie is completely boring. It's not like I only watch action movies, hell i liked Patch Adams and Lost in translation. Not exactly the most action rich stuff. But the godfather? Nope, I was just bored for 3 hours. The plot line is more
predictable than a bad soap opera. There was so many stuff I said to my GF "yeah and now that and that will happen". And then it happened and she was kind of shocked how I knew it. Well because it was goddamn obvious and the movie boring as shit because of it.

And there is nothing emotional about it. You can't connect or identify with any character. I don't care about them at all.

The worst part is were Sonny gets should: i had to laugh that scene i so stupid and the acting terrible. On a similar level is when he dies (he = marlon brando) it looks ridiculous and I saw it coming 5 minutes before.

Can anyone tell me what makes this film god? I do not get it...

Go watch the Fast and Furious franchise. It's more your speed. See what I did there???
