Hey guys,
I'm new here. My friend has been posting here ever since highschool and I finally decided to give in to his request of "you should JOIN. get on anandtech. Their off topic forums are the best." I can remember him telling me that he posted here in HS asking how to shave his face. I always thought forums were, how shall I say...for those who really like computers a lot. However, I've come to realize forums are for everyone who has internet access. There are tons of very interesting posts on Off Topic that I have enjoyed reading and finally decided to make an account and start posting/replying.
There is one question i want to ask and one comment i would like to make.
1: What are acronyms or unspoken rules about posting that i should know. (ie. I just learned that ATOT means anandtech off topic. Stuff like that. I'm a noob, I admit it, help me out guys)
2: I decided to start up forum'ing due to the several benefits it has (if any of you agree or disagree with me on these, please let me know cuz at this point they are just speculation. To have someone who has posted here for a long time respond to these would be great)
a. Help my reading speed and amount of material I read per day
b. Increased typing speed
c. Exposure to many differing opinions and ideologies which thus increases my "human capital" (amount of knowledge and experience one has in the world)
d. Formulate opinions about many "hot topics" that pop up today as well as staying up to date on all politics that occur
e. Work on my writing ability in general. I don't often have the opportunity to write down ideas rushing around in my head, this is an outlet that allows for such activities.
f. Oh yea, i forgot, a major reason why is b/c some of you guys are funny as all H - E - Double hockey sticks (you can't use profanity...correct?)
If any of you guys have anything else to add about benefits or anything in general, please do so.
Hello all, my name is Mentat and I'll be seeing you around
