I never used to listen to Satriani, but I picked up his latest album a while back, and it's great to sit back and listen to it. While you guys are debating, maybe suggest other rock guitar albums? It'll give me something to do 🙂

Joe Satriani according to me is just another great guitarist.....but Malmsteen?...He is a living legend.....the concept of a shredding guitar god is there because of him...without Malmsteen Satriani wouldnt have been very popular......Malmsteen is unique and revolutionary, i admit Satriani has some pretty neat tunes but his style and melodies are not groundbreaking in the genre of rock/metal music, whereas Malmsteen brought the neo-classical style into music. Most of the people who diss Malmsteen in the guitar world are basically whiny cry babies jealous of his speed and accuracy.

I think most people in the guitar world realize that and appreciate his phenomenal talent.

The Malmsteen-heads are still confusing "player" with "musician." No one is going to deny that Malmsteen is one of the fastest, most accurate players on earth. And, yes, he has an incredible store of musical theory in his head, and he introduced a neoclassical take on shredding. But while he can play a blistering solo and has inhuman fingers, he can't write his way out of a paper bag. His songs are predicable and formulaic, and he doesn't seem to be familiar with the concept of melody. He's all flash and no substance. There's not a guitarist out there who doesn't wish they could play with that much skill, but when I listen to music, I'm listening to music, not to someone showing off. Guitarists like Vai, Satch, and others have taken the shred style and applied something it rarely had: emotion.

Even beyond the songs, just listen to a solo. Malmsteen may make you sit back and say, "wow, that's amazing playing," but Satch and his crowd can make you sit back and be filled with emotion. They're playing with their hearts instead of their brains.

Now that you put it that way, I can agree somewhat. Malmsteens music can be methodical, cold, emotionless. Satch's music'll never be any of those.

Not by a long shot. This isnt CLOSE to being over. But if you got a problem like that, we can step out back and figure it out.....
😉 😉 😛

Have you guys heard Satch live? I've heard a bunch of totally differing opinions on him live. A few of my friends say he doesn't reproduce his album well live, and others say he is perfect. Anyone know first hand?

"IMHO Petrucci is worlds above Wylde. JMO."

From a technical standpoint, absolutely. I didn't mean to imply that he was. But, even so, I really do like Wylde's sound.

I've heard him live. Nobody sounds as good live as they do in studio, thats a fact. Satch's fingers are doing the exact same work. He sounds almost as good as his studio albums.

satriani sounds average live...feedback...feedback...

what malmsteen and no emotion?...listen to the solo in the "you dont remember " song and the black star song...

pure emotional outpouring has to be that beauty called " for the love of god " by Steve Vai

Bump to let everyone know that Satriani is releasing a new album this Tuesday, June 25th. The album is called Strange Beautiful Music.

All about the new CD ... with a full MP3 and lots of excerpts.

I've listened to some of the songs, and it's dammmmmn schweet. You may find some stuff around your favorite file-sharing app, but it's kinda rare to find as of today. Keep looking ... I've found about 5 tracks, and I'll definately buy the album.

Satch is back to rock, after going into eletronic in his last album. Stu Hamm is OUT (?!) ... which leaves me wondering why. Anyway ... fans will enjoy!
