Just wanna say Joe Satriani owns everyone

Surfing with the Alien and Flying in a Blue Dream are my favorites. His new cd is very good as well- Strange Beautiful Music. I got to meet him backstage a few years ago. I got his autograph on a piece of paper, my friend got it on an Ibanez guitar that he won. Bastard.

Probably Via and Eric Johnson. From the G3 tour? Satch rules. The greatest living rock guitarist.

IIRC, Petrucci recently replaced Johnson.

I like Petrucci better personaly, and I met him and got his autograph the last time I saw him. He is such a super nice guy we had like a 5 min talk.

I've heard he's a swell guy. He is the reason DreamTheater and LiquidTension RULE. Well, Mike Portnoy too.

The extremist was one of his best.

For the record, Joe Satriani spent some time as a guitar instructor. A few of his students went pro: Steve Vai, Kirk Hammet (lead for Metallica), Doug Doppler, Larry LaLonde (Primus), and many others.

Steve Vai first got his break playing for Frank Zappa, who was a great influence on his later work... I don't know what that has to do with anything, but I thought I'd say it since I'm foaming at the mouth with degree-of-seperation musical knowledge.

Hammet is a Satch student?!?!?!?! COOL!

Apparently you haven't heard of Mr. Stevie Ray Vaughn.

Don't get me wrong, Satriani is awesome... But he's no Stevie Ray.

If I wanted to listen to blues, then you would be correct. However, I was listening to a rock guitarist.

Amen. Malmsteen is an exellent player. But he is a horrible musician. Satch is a great player and an exellent musician.

I strongly disagree. I think Malmsteen is a great musician, and a great player. However, his strong point is his speed. Satch just got more style than him. Malmsteens music is based on classical themes, he aint no bad musician. Far from it.
