My gawd is that thing amazing. Nice supercharger whine, light clutch feel, super short throw in the shifter.....and power.

That is all, you may drool at my accomplishment now.
 
Awesome brute of a car. I haven't driven one, but a guy down the street owns one and I hear it from time to time. I'd love to give one a spin.
 
How did you get the chance to test drive one? I'd like to take an updated one for a spin.

Went down to the dealership and expressed interest. They have their 2011's marked way down to make way for the 2012's....and this lonely 2010 that was the dealership's owner's that was labeled "demo". 9000km on it.
 
Psh stock? Lol. Try one that's been lightly modded. 😀

I have just found out that any and all Supersnake's that are sent down from Canada to the USA for the upgrade are having real trouble getting back over the border....not sure one has even made it yet.
 
The absolute worst part of the test drive was having to get back into mt 05 GT and drive away...stiff clutch, long throw (in comparison....short if compared to an SN95 model).
 
never driven one. surprised the clutch is light, mustangs were always known to me for their stiff clutches and short travel. i remember the supercharged cobras basically feeling like they had a really stiff on/off switch for a pedal.
 
i'd only get it if you get a smokin' deal. msrp is laughable, you're not getting 20 grand of upgrades over a GT and you might as well buy a luxury car at that point.

those people who paid 60k+ for marked up gt500's at launch? laaffffff.

I was also surprised at how light and even it felt all the way to the floor. Also, that is the first time I have driven a car with a short throw shifter, it is odd at first. You're not 100% sure it's in gear and you expect a wicked grinding noise when you let out the clutch.

MSRP for a 2011 GT500 was $55K WITH the SVT package. I'd say that is a fair price for a car that you can just drop a 750+HP supercharger in it without any additional mods (well, different tires would be about it).

I love the GT500. It is the epitome of American muscle. And if you compare it with the MSRP of the new 800HP Supersnake, it is an outright steal. 😉

Before someone decided to stick Shelby stickers on the car and jack the price up by $20,000 for that sticker, SVT was about performance AND value. If you have to pay $60, $70, $80,000 for a modified Mustang, that's more or less a sidegrade over a previous model anyway, you're better off with something else.

I remember when shelby first came out people where paying 80k for one. Now I see 2 at carmax one convertible and a hardtop. They won't even let you sit on this cars when it was in the showroom.

Well, I think everything has gone up since back in the day. There are a lot people that are pissed that a GT cost close to $40K now. But I think you are getting A LOT more in a GT now too. It is a great sports car, but also has all the other great little gadgets and MUCH improved interior. I also LOVE the Ford Sync. Very cool. It's no longer just a raw muscle car. It has more muscle than ever, but also has the interior refinement that makes it a pleasure just to drive casually.

So for an additional $15K more, you get the Cobra engine PLUS the ability to just drop in a supercharger. So in the end, you're looking at a NEW 750+HP Mustang for about $65K. I actually don't think that is a bad deal for a monster car like that.

Sure, I could have gotten a GT and modded it, but right now I have an insane showroom stock car with a warranty. Oh, and that 750hp supercharger upgrade? That's 50-state legal, yo. Visually, this car is stunning and it attracts a lot of attention. On turns, it handles actually pretty well. While my STi has quicker throttle response and is fast in its own right, driving the Shelby is an entirely different experience; the horsepower comes on like a force of nature.

The interior quality is very nice, the seats are very comfortable, and the Sync system works pretty well. The only demerits I have are that the Shaker 500 sound system leaves a bit to be desired (though it is still significantly better than the stock stereo was in my STi).
