Hello m1ldslide1 and welcome to the TeAm :)

TeAm Anandtech Sentinel - TAS - is the TeAm's Rally TeAm, they crunch a different project every month to help them get ahead. They are a great bunch of TeAmmates that like to learn about everything DC. But mostly their goal is to HAVE FUN!

Because TAS is not as big as F@H, some of us need to help them to even out the race.

Visit the racing threads to get to know everyone and join in the friendly banter. We might say 'war' but it is all good natured teasing and or goading to try to increase production.

I had a Dell P3@1.0 Ghz laptop that I ran F@H 24/7 on for the last four years of its life, basically it's whole life, before it quit (seemed to be a hard drive connector or MB problem). I thought that was pretty good life. I did frequently blow out dust from the fan intake area.

[22:47:31] Project: 2653 (Run 16, Clone 98, Gen 23)
This line in your log tells me you will get 1,760 points a few hours after the results get sent in

Just to let you all know:

Folders and TAS:ers all race for the TeAm AnandTech (#198). Thus the race helps the TeAm.
I keep track of who belongs to which team (which BTW is no way easy since all end everyone wants to ghet to the winning team, and thus when one team is winning, then all the others want to move ;) [petrus is joking].

Anyhow:
m1ldslide1 has given me the opition to put him into the TAS team, but has indicated a slight preference to the Folders. Therefore I have put m1ldslide1 to the Folders.

Now before you all erupt into a collective joyful howl (or a howl in desperation, depending which team you root for) I have to let you know that ...

mooseracing has joined the TAS:ers.

Welcome m1ldslide1 and mooseracing! :D

You can read about it and d/l it here

I have this running on both machines now, and it's kind of interesting. The C2D laptop idles at 52/55, and under continuous load got up to 67/69. The air coming out under load was quite noticeably hotter than what is coming out now at idle.

The AMD though, is idling at 7/11 and got up to 20/23 under load. I didn't realize that Dell included sub-ambient cooling in their mATX builds free of charge!

lol ,keeps your lap cool too then;)

Welcome to TA :D

How hard is it to set up the GPU client for an X1950 Pro PCI-E 256MB card? I'm interested in doing that.

Also, do you know if you have to manually disable the client when you go to run a 3d game, or does it automatically recede into the background for you?

Does this mean that I have to wait until tomorrow night to get my first score???

I'll be adding the 3200+ single core when I get home, and potentially the 2.6ghz opteron. I kind of want to get a more efficient PSU for the latter before I start stressing it 24/7.

As long as you run the AMD computer 24/7 you won't get in trouble with teh deadlines which are typically 4 days.

I have noticed different situations on different machines & games, but <whisper> I manually turn off whatever I'm crunching while I'm gaming </whisper> (can't let the other crunchers know I do that).

My wife doesn't turn off BOINC-SETI when she plays Guild Wars on her AMD Opty 148, but I have noticed performance changes leave it on vs turning it off while playing Guild Wars. Easiest thing to do would be to leave it running and see how the game performs for you--if it changes, then pause or turn off the crunching for a bit.

I manually exit F@H GPU when I'm about to play a game ,TBH I can't recall whether it turns itself off or not.
Btw ,this somewhat sporadic ,I occasionally notice some GUI lag(about 1-2s?) with F@H GPU running ,I exit it then too ,right now its running & I've got no lag at all & mostly that is the case . I've got a 256MB X1950 Pro PCIE.

Oh & it's easy enough to setup :) ,one thing you might need to check is that the drivers your using are compatible with it.Info here

FMC
I heard that! ,I think your penance should be to give me 100k in GWs;) heheh

Do you know if Cat 7.9 is compatible with F@H GPU client? I prefer to install the drivers with the control panel and not the CCC, and 7.9 is the newest that I have with only the CP.

Update: I got my first score woot! 1760 points for user m1ldslide1.

Which brings me to my question #1:
I'm running the SMP client on my dual-core 4000+, and it hasn't finished its first WU yet. It's at 80% after 44 hours or so. Should finish at 53 hours. What is the time limit on SMP? For some reason its bouncing around in my head that there is a 48 hour limit, unless you download WU's without deadlines. I wouldn't guess that such a new processor would be lagging past deadlines, but I guess I wanna make sure?

Question #2:
I installed the regular (non-smp) CLI version on my gf's 3200+, and it's running in the background as a service. Is there some way that I can bring the cmd window up again so that I can monitor progress?

Thanks!!

m1ldslide1: It sounds like you should run FAHMON, I just learned of it, and its great !

BTW, I think the time limit is 3 days, so you should be OK.

Is FAHMON linux (ubuntu IIRC) only?

EDIT: NVM, I have it installed now. I completely thought it was linux only. This is nice. :D
I need to get access to the machines I have crunching elsewhere. hehehe

Exactly. I don't have local access to all of them though.

I think fahmon will be a good solution for me too. Especially now that I'm starting to make plans for a farm at home...

Told you I was gonna get addicted! I've been thinking about this for a few months, even though i just got started this week. I've always had trouble finding things to do with my spare computer parts, and now I'll be able to put them to good use. Hopefully I'll upgrade my gaming rig to a quad in the spring, which'll free up my opteron 175 for strictly crunching use. Then the gf will be needing an upgrade not too long after that... and so on, and so on, and so on, and so OH NO I'M HAVING THE SHAKES!

Thanks much - I've been looking the extremeoverclocking results page, and it's pretty interesting. Looks like I'll have jumped several pages by Monday. Sure looks like there's a lot of people who try out f@h for a couple of days and get rid of it... where's the loyalty and commitment? It's TeAm Anandtech after all!
