*SPOILERS*

Eh, even on realistic that isn't so hard. Just sneak up and bash the first guard and he'll never attack you until he sets off the alarm. Then take his pistol, go down the stairs, and lure the guard with the assault rifle(shotgun?) and kill him when his back is turned. After that it is as simple as blasting a few more soldiers, finding a datacube, and opening the armory doors.

I never understood that game :( and complex games dont bother me much, i played civ II CTP!

I just played the first mission, killed everything, somehow won  and then on that mission where the freaky bio enhanced lady is there and theres swat teams outside whats supposed to be a castle, looks like a small house to me though, i just got stuck, killed everything, cant find any place to go. So i just gave up.

*SPOILERS*

Castle Clinton is a sidequest, so how could you get stuck? There's a couple of barrels that would be good if you found, but finding them isn't even necessary.

I never had much trouble with that part either. The only thing that's a little tricky is entering the armory itself, as you need to open the door and kill the trooper quickly before the military bots see you and then run from the camera inside. There is an alternate way to get in there through a vent, but IIRC you need a lockpick or two to disable a gas leak in your way.

Did any of you manage to get that NSF guy out? It's easy to do since you can just order him to wait somewhere while you clear out the map, but you wouldn't think that the game actually expects you to do that. (if you tell him to "make a break for it," he just runs into the detention area and vanishes)

You only get one of your LAMs back for some reason, so you should try to use them all up in the big fight earlier. I think this might be a bug in the game. It kind of sucks, since there are only two or three LAMs in the whole Hong Kong mission.

Also, in Hong Kong, you can use the LAM climbing trick to go up the skyscrapers and do all kinds of strange things. :D

Remember guys, Augs are your friends. If you dont have the cloak installed then you must have the radar transparancy installed.

My deux ex experience:

Oh what a short experience it was... I started a new game on easy, since im pretty familiar with seeing my funny lookin guy lying dead on the floor... some genetically enhanced trooper you are! and it skips the story, the two guys talking at the start cut eachother off, its like theyre being rude but i think its got somthing to do with me having dual core, and the fmv timing being off due to this. Anyways thats a major problem because i wanna know what the deal is.

I started out and it skipped dialogue while talking to paul, so i decided to go kill some NSF guys, i creep up behind one of them and BOOM, headshot, another one comes running from somwhere and i find i only had like 1 bullet or w/e so im clicking away click click click, guns not doing anything. Take out the bat and whack him with it, he went absolutely ape$hit crazy and ran off, like he took steroids or somthing. So badly wounded and wondering why UNACTO felt the need to send me in with only one or two bullets and why theres no minimap i wandered until i found this security bot, which i took out with the GEP gun i conveniantly picked. Then an NSF guy comes running and kills me. Possibly the same guy that went bonkers when i hit him earlier. Then for about the 6th time i see my agent lying dead and that depressing music starts to play :(

How can i sort the skipping issue? I think i can sort out my poor gameplay by myself but there has to be a dual core patch or somthing no? Im already running 1122f or w/e.

Yeah, all the Unreal engine games have annoying problems with dual cores. The only solution I have found is to set the affinity manually (imagecfg doesn't work at all and WinlauncherXP causes some weird glitches). Chances are that the game won't let you alt-tab and get back in, but if you create a blank running.ini file and put it in the Deus Ex system folder, it will think that it was not properly closed down and come up with an error message, allowing you to set the affinity before the game actually starts up. You have to do this every time you start the game, which is quite a hassle but does work.

Ok, tried that, but nothing happened.

Affinity setter 1.08 did the trick I dunno if its a permanent fix though, the staring cutscene is fine.

WoOooO, just finished the game today. Took the advice of going through the front at the Ton Hotel. I kept dying over and over by the damn sniper on the first floor before i could get off a gas grenade. There had better be a reason togo the front door route!

Over all a very impresive game and the multi-ending was unexpected. Though I felt the ending vids were short and gave little to the build up storyline.

The game took 22 hours to beat. Could've been quicker, but I made sure to talk to every person and search every room to find any hidden items or side-missions. My main weapon of choice was the sniper rifle :p, HEAD-SHOT.

I noticed when your in Sector 4 and you reach the room with the 4 containment tubes of the augmented soldiers, one being JC's which is destroyed. The one next to that is Alex Denton! A third brother perhaps? I later checked out DX: IW and turns out Alex is the main player in the sequal! The next game on my playlist is Prey, but do you guys think it's worth putting that on hold to try out DX: IW?

Wow I must be the only guy in the universe who thought this game was absolutely appalling. Sure the story is interesting but the combat is just a joke. The AI is absolutely the worst I have ever seen, there are myriad bugs and although the story is very deep it also drags on a lot. I hated Deus Ex.

i've never played DX:IW, but it's worth a shot, considering it wont cost as much as prey :D

i just beat the game too.. went with dragon's tooth/sniper rifle. i maxed several augs, and at the end, my guy was EXACTLY how i wanted him to play (it's too bad i didn't get more a chance to kill stuff though)

What's so bad about the combat? The AI isn't the smartest but it is acceptable. They run from grenades, set off alarms, shoot you, and retreat when injured. Good enough for me. The game is hardly buggy either, compared to most other games.

DX2 isn't the nearly as awesome as the original game but it's ok. The worst problems are constant bugs, long loading points for small areas, and a lack of skill points. It's also two times shorter than the original. Still, I'd at least try it anyways as the rest of the gameplay is pretty faithful to the first one.

DXIW is also a major performance hog (and doesn't look all that great either). That engine greatly prefers ATI cards, but I think only the X1900s will run it well at higher resolutions. Overall I think it was still quite a good game though, better than most I have played.

Does it really favor ATI cards? After all it's co-advertising of nVidia?

I'm glad this thread got so popular, it inspired me to finally finish DX:IW, but, before I could do that I obviously had to reinstall Deus Ex and play through that first to make sure I'm caught up on the storyline. Damn, this game rocks especially now that all those semi annoying load times are now near instant!

It seemed to run equally well on either card when I tried it.

I currently run it at 1600x1200 with 4xAA transparency SS on my 7900 GTX without issue.

I'm mainly going by one of Xbit's benchmarks a few years ago, where IIRC the X800XT had a pretty large lead over everything else, although it still only ran the game decently at 1024x768 without AA. This game was actually where I saw the biggest difference going from two 7800GTs to an X1900XTX (which are generally comparable otherwise), with close to double the performance in general. There are some areas where the framerate seems to tank regardless of the settings though.

There is a fanmade texture pack somewhere that is supposed to greatly improve many of the crappy default textures, but I don't think I ever got around to trying that.
