Dammit! Now I have to find my DeusEx disk and play again.

I never did finish it the first time around.

By the way, get the custom OpenGL driver for this and run it with that if you aren't already. It runs far better that way.

Where to get? Also, does this game use it's own engine or is it the UT engine or other?

Whoa it supports Glide? *whips out voodoo3*

I enjoyed the sequel more than the original.

It was tighter with more action, better weapons and more varied levels.

That's interesting, you are the first person I've seen who prefers the second game. I did like the story a lot and the weapons had nice effects, but I was disappointed by the graphics engine (which ran very poorly at its time and didn't look great either), small levels, lack of a skill system and very little text material like emails and newspapers compared to the first game. It seemed too console influenced overall and lacked the polish of the first game (the blatant spelling errors on some of the neon signs really stood out). I think it's still one of the better games I've played though.

Yeah, it uses the UT engine. You can find the OpenGL dll file and the ini options it uses here:
http://cwdohnal.home.mindspring.com/utglr/ (scroll down a bit for the link)

This especially improves performance a lot in the large outdoor areas.

Hey guys. I jsut started playing the first deus ex, is there any way to make it look better? It maxes out a 1280x720 for me. Also are there any mods like oblivion has? to make the textures better and stuff? Alot of the textures are just *ick* I'm sure they were good at their time though.

Most of the mods I've seen for enhanced graphics are very unstable. That could be a problem unless you quicksave every two minutes.

You can go into the Deusex.ini and change the resolution, bu the game will likely crash. I'd just keep it at 1024x768. The interface doesnt scale too well above that.

Actually, it works fine. The interface elements look large and blocky since they use the 640x480 sizes, but there are no problems otherwise. I always play the game at 2048x1536 in fact.

The textures actually look pretty good as long as you have detail textures enabled and the detail level set to 2 in the ini. Unlike the ones in most modern games, they don't get blurry when you see them close up.

On a side note, speaking of Deus Ex, here is something I made a few months ago. :D

I never understood that game :( and complex games dont bother me much, i played civ II CTP!

I just played the first mission, killed everything, somehow won  and then on that mission where the freaky bio enhanced lady is there and theres swat teams outside whats supposed to be a castle, looks like a small house to me though, i just got stuck, killed everything, cant find any place to go. So i just gave up.

If you get the latest official patch for Deus Ex, you can actually run the game at high res like you can Unreal Tournament.

Get it here. Sorry, I know many of you will hate fileplanet but ... well this is what you'll have to deal with for the moment unless someone can find it elsewhere. Yes, it is worth it.

As for Deus Ex Invisible War, I am enjoying it. Have only played some of it, and only now since I have a system upgrade can I really run it in a beatiful way. Obviously it looks better than the original game, but much of it has a smoother more refined feel with a very sci-fi atmosphere. I feel I'd choose it over Call of Duty 2 at the moment, which I'm playing as well.

It is a graphics hog. I have a 2.6GHz dual core AMD and a x1900xt and I can't max AA or AF on it, considering it's a 2003 game. Assign it to a single core if you have dual core as well, since it gets jittery eventually. If you don't know how to set to a single core(affinity), google for it and you will in a few seconds.

Many complain it sucks, but I've played sucky games and it is certainly not sucky so far.

Ummmmmm.....
I have a later official patch than you. 1112fm, and it only lets me do 1280x720 in the config. Anything higher and it crashes and reverts to 640x480.
The only thing I can think of is my GeForce 7900GTX is missing a bunch of older features. Probably the same reason I cant get FF7 to run without lots of user mods.

I have the same card and I don't have any problems running the game at 1920x1440 with 16xAF and 8xAA.

Crap. That sucks.

I'm not too upset. 1024x768 doesnt look bad. And the game itself is much more fun than anything else I can get running at 1600x1200.
