You don't have to look much further than the resale of the Tiberon...

You're an idiot if you think the Genesis Coupe will share the same fate as the Tiburon

LOL

The base model Genesis is pretty much the same as the Tiburon V6, except the FWD/RWD difference. Please explain how they are that different?

Plus, the Tiburon lasted a few generations, did OK with sales....I don't think the Genesis coupe will do much better (maybe marginally).

Wait until this time next year when used Genesis coupes are worth significantly less, it will happen.

ummm that is a pretty big difference. not to mention that the tiburon was never really performance oriented even though it did look pretty sharp.

I've been researching this car, and apparently there's only about 2,500 GCs in the US so far. I believe they wanted to gauge sales in the first few months and ramp up production with the Navi. I'd say in the next few months, you'll start to see many more on the streets.

Hmm, lots of 370z comparisons going on here.

Sorry that is a total fail, this car gets stomped by the Z in every category, they're not in the same league.

Agreed. The Hunday is uglier, slower, uglier, uglier, doesn't handle as well, and it is uglier.

That's the ENTIRE difference. RWD would make any car more desirable to enthusiasts who are willing to pay. Again, I cited the VW R32 above. They essentially added AWD to a previous FWD only car and it generated insane resale values. We're not even talking a new platform. We're talking an, at the time, 6 year old platform with AWD tacked on. The nice seats and wheels were just a bonus, everyone wanted the AWD. The fact the GC is RWD and the Tiburon is FWD makes ALL the difference in the world.

Wait until this time next year when used Genesis coupes are worth significantly less, it will happen.

Sorry, but we'll have to agree to disagree, this one is going to buck the trend and hold a good value over the first couple of years.

Agreed. 🙂

Making a mediocre car RWD doesn't make it suddenly "the best car on earth". If GM made the Cobalt RWD, it wouldn't all of a sudden be worth so much more. The R32 has a lot of differences over the standard GTI/Golf, and is a pretty nice vehicle. The genesis coupe is really just an updated Tiburon with RWD, IMHO. It may be worth a little more in the long run, but I don't believe considerably so. Time will tell.

My unscientific analysis tells me that they aren't selling very well.

I've seen quite a few on the road. The sedan won North American Car of the Year award, the sales should be on par with what they expected.

I'm planning on buying a Genesis Coupe as soon as I get my finances how I want them. I test drove the 6 speed 3.8L Track edition and was impressed. Hyundai or not, this is a really nice/solid car. A good value too.

Put me in the "2 year old half the price club" Resale value will be horrible like every other Honda wanna be. The only people that think it won't have horrible resale value are a few delusional enthusiasts, 90% of the population that sees no difference between this car and the Tiberon will set the prices, not the 2% that are defending it.

Anyone who doesn't agree with this can go see "Big Man" and invest their money in these cars and watch them appreciate signficiantly.

/sarcasm

Good car (somewhat bland styling) but poor resale value. Hyundai may be working on their reputation in regards to resale, but it's not going to do a 180 in just one year.

Good thread bump. I've only seen a handful of these things out there. I guess people are having a hard time plunking $30k on a Hyundai? I see plenty of 370Z now, and of course a virtual armada of G37 coupes. I like the Genesis, but I have to admit they fit in below the 370Z and G37 on the totem pole (as well it should, given the price).

the big difference is that it won't be as hot of a seller in any snowy climates.
