I've seen the commercial too
If the package teaches you JUST the magic tricks done on the commercial then it's worth it. Man, what a better way to start up a conversation :)

Relf,

Looks pretty standard to me. That's not bad. What I'm saying is, there have always been littel standard junior magic toolkits that come with some books (teaching the basics, sleight of hand, drops, palming, etc...), some trick decks (svengali decks kick total ass), and a little gimmick trick or two, and maybe a video tape. So, yes, it works, but no better than any other option. I'd say, if you think it looks like a decent gift, GET IT. It's a great little kit. On the other hand, if you have a magic shop in the area, drop in there some time. Usually, they have a resident old man magician or two who will just sidle up to you and start doing tricks in front of you. That way, you are totally blown away, and you say YOU WANT THAT TRICK. --And they have made a sale. They may have what you're looking for there, too. I'd say Jaw Droppers would be a good gift, and certainly, it will "work" if the kid is willing to practice. Go for it! :)

they sell Jaw Droppers at my 2 local best buys so i'm sure they probably carry it neat yours as well. i don't like to order from infomercials because they have a tendency to be egayish and rape your for shipping.

I wonder how he does that trick where he asks the person to write a name on a piece of paper, crumples it, burns it, and rubs the ashes on his forearm, causing the name to appear in ashes on his skin?

bolomite: I know what you are saying, that trick looks IMPOSSIBLE......to me, it seems that it cannot be done without the glory of television...

Hmm, if we all buy it, it will cost less...then we can just "share" our tapes ;)

every magic trick seems impossible... only the truly GIFTED magicians can think up their own tricks... if everyone on the forums sat around and watched a BRAND NEW magic trick, never before seen, i bet no one would be able to figure out how it was done... but then, if we were showed how it was done, we would be like "oh, yeah, why didnt i think of that?"... this is true of even the SIMPLEST tricks... the fact of the matter is, the only true magicians are the ones that make up their own tricks...

speaking of magic, i went to see a David Copperfield performance at my local theatre about 2 years ago... i shall tell you a story that will forever boggle my mind...

i sat about 10 rows from the front, and David started telling of this trick he was going to do... so he strolled into the audience, and gave a COMPLETELY empty bucket to a man sitting RIGHT next to me... he was with his wife, and seemed like a completely normal guy... the man (following instructions) but the bucket on his lap, and was handed a white piece of cloth to put over the top of the bucket... about 15 seconds later, a fvcking HUGE ass goose pushed the cloth off of the bucket, and hopped out of the damned thing... i have NO FVCKING IDEA how this was done... in those 15 seconds, the guy didnt move his hands at all... i was sitting RIGHT next to this guy, and he didnt manipulate that bucket at all... WHERE THE FVCK DID THIS BIRD COME FROM!!!!!
