Just received a new Dell 1905FP. What a disappointment...

Oh I get it, i have a 16ms response time but lose the ultrasharp. Ehh, I have no complaints, no ghosting on mine at all. Plus I got it for $150 new, woot!!

Agreed. AMLCD here, as well. Ghosting is still awful. It's that 20ms thing - no way around it, you'll see ghosting on it.

Still, the monitor makes sense for me. Do a LOT of documentation on the system, so bigger is better on the eyes - and the ghosting isn't awful, but it's definitely noticeable on games with a lot of greys.

Honestly, I don't know what Anandtech was smoking when they wrote the article praising the 1905fp so highly - it's decent, but it's not the second coming or anything.

The 2005fpw and 2405fpw are both MUCH better monitors - quality and performance-wise, forget size!

I have an 1801FP is there any way to tell what panel it uses or do they all use the same panel? I'm plenty happy with it I've just always been curious as to who the panel was actually made by.

HAHAHA.

I wish my 5 1/2 year old Viewsonic PS790 19" CRT would bite the dust. I need an excuse to get the 2001 or 2005 (haven't decided which--probably the 2001 though--more area, more pixels). Of course, since CRT monitors always tend to last like 10 years, I might be waiting a while longer.

i wsnt the 2001fp
why do ppl buy the 2005? i have heard bad things about it and often the price both on della nd ebay is lower than the 2001

What a surprise

I try to make sure I warn people about this everytime I see a 1905FP thread come up, whether it be here, in General Hardware, or Hot Deals.

Fast action games are a no-no for this panel.

Acer has an excellent 12ms DVI 19" LCD for under $300; check Hot Deals.

Yup the response time on it is 20ms I believe, I used a 16ms monitor before & it was an improvement barely noticeable. Anything better is just gravy.

response time means nothing

Still have my Dell P780 (rebadged FD Trinitron) still going strong as a secondary after 5 years.

my 6 year old gateway vx900 is still rollin, of course i couldn't really afford a new 2001fp right now though.
in those 1905 hot deals threads, I've seen people say they are poor for gaming

It is a LG monitor.

I posted this in another thread but didn't get any response so I am posting it here as well.

I just received my 1905 the other day. Picked it up for $259 through Dell when a few coupons were stackable. Ordered it last Thursday afternoon about 5:00 and it was at my house Friday before I got home from work. Sheeeescchh the wife was home when it arrived! I wasn't planning on it arriving so soon!

I sure hope the ghosting isn't that big of a deal.

Should I just let XP install the drivers or should I use the included disc?

Any hints on setting it up?

Do I need to download Service Pack 2...I've been avoiding this like the plague?

Should I update my ATI drivers? Don't like messing with these either......

Thanks for the help

ahhhh fvcking hell, my 1905fp came today. wtf? it took less than 48 hours after ordering to get here. i even put in a refusal the day after i ordered. what should i do now?

ok, i decided to try it out and man of man the blurring is horrible in hl2. but not ghosting though i don't think

ok, just called to schedule the return. after using it for aobut an hour, i actually got used to it, gaming wasnt even that bad anymore. but still i needed to return it because they refused to honor my discounts, which made the monitor only 280 dollars. the rep that i spoke to when i placed the order said he would honor it etc etc. that bastard, he's gonna get a complaint for shizzle.

a green vertical aline also started to appear down the center of the screen.... ok.... last time i am dealing with dell, ever again. i had the AUO panel by the way. i think it's safe to say now: I FVCKING hate dell

I'm convinced that the people that use LCD's just aren't gamers. I have yet to see a single LCD monitor that didn't have some sort of ghosting, and yes most of them were 16 ms or better response times. Games just look and run better on CRT's. When someone can show me an LCD that doesn't ghost, at all. I will consider buying one.

cain,

I checked the 1905FP I ordered and it's is a rebadged Samsung SyncMaster 193P, if that makes you feel any better 😛

I bought 2, they're both Samsung, and I'm not a gamer, so I'm still happy🙂

Like I said, if I wasn't gaming I would never consider returning it. Colors in 2D look awsome, bold and saturated, just the way I like it.

I have also been playing with it a little longer, and will admit that I have gotten used to it somewhat, and my eyes don't hurt nearly as much. I will give a try for couple more days, I already have an RMA in hand with authorized UPS shipping (no charge to me) if I finally decide to send it back.
