Just received a large sum of money...

This would be my plan:
- Dump $9 million into investments recommended by your financial adviser (for long term growth and income)
- Put $1 million into a high yield savings account and live off of the interest while you finish college (masters or doctorate). This is $40-50k a year which is more than enough to live a very sweet college life.
- After you finish college, buy a house with the money the $9 million earned you. Find something you enjoy doing and do it. For me, it would be sitting on my ass. For you, it might be something different.
- Regardless of what crazy stuff you decide to do with your money, always keep $4-5 million in a hard to access account. This is your "oh shit I'm broke" fund that guarantees you'll never "have" to work for the rest of your life, even if you wreck your Bugatti or your crazy business venture goes belly up.

Seriously that's messed up though. Bugging my friends about it? Go through my life all you want but dude..

lol seriously, who the hell is contacting your friends through AIM?? thats just sad, even for ATOT haha

$10M at age 18 is crazy. I wouldn't blow a sizable chunk of it on a Bugatti right off the bat. Buy a decent house, invest the bulk of the money, live off part of the interest, and set money aside for growing a future business. Hope you haven't told people IRL about this, I wouldn't do it.

I'd probably go through with college but it would hard to get motivated. I'd say screw it to anything scientific/technical and change my major to 1 of 2 things: the easiest thing you can find with the hottest chicks and party like a rockstar for 4 years, or a business/finance major and party like a rockstar for 4 years.

I'm already a finance major 😉

At a big party school...

Buy a spot on a bigelow space habitat. Go to mars. Do something badass and use the money before your children take it all.

That sounds about right then, heh.

Are there any non-specific hints you can give about what general type of business you're in 😉

almost seconded. I would do this except off the top take $1 mil and buy a house, car, etc. Then take another mil and give to the charity of your choice (or spread it around, whatever, point is to give back). Then like joshsquall said live off interest from some and long term invest the rest. I would personally go high yield savings $3 mil ($40k is fine to live off but why would you if you have $8 mil?), $2.5 mil in risky investments, $2.5 mil in safe mutual funds.

That way you have stuff you want plus a secure future and you should be positive cashflow.

Either way, congrats! So you live in forney, where do you go to school? (I am too lazy to look up your facebook). I am from DFW and I am just curious if you want to party! (you buy of course)

Wow.... Serious???

Dude, get yourself a kick-@$$ rig, i mean like SLI-8800ultra with quad-core extreme and 2000 watt PSU and physics-X card, 4gig DDR3, X-fi, get like a huge speaker system, 30" monitor, and go play crysis!

but honestly, invest. i mean, with that kind of money, you can make alot more of it =)

10 million dollars and that's the best you could do? Weak.

Give the kid a break, after all, it was only his first company, and he was distracted with his first year at college.

Just over $10 after taxes is not a nice round number. I rounded it for simplicity.

Oh well, thread is way too OT. If anyone else has anything interesting they'd do with the money chime in plz.

Why would anyone waste their time giving you investment advice for money that doesn't exist?

Time to call up the dean of undergraduate studies at Yale and make some "contributions" and get your ass to a better school?

If you can't proof it until u finalize the deal, then brag about it on ATOT until u finalize the deal. Otherwise you are just gonna get the countless of "Bullshit!" replies from everybody.

Don't blow it on a car like the Veyron--buy an Audi R8 from a tuner and keep the change (the Audi makes an excellent daily driver!)

Seriously though, invest 30% in real estate and the rest in a high-yield account. I bet in today's housing market there are plenty of bargains to be found--just don't get conned into beachfront condos! 🙂
