It usually has to be for:

- not being paid
- unsafe or unhealthy work environment
- changes in your job responsibilities
- discrimination
- health and safety risks on the job
- family emergencies

Oh I agree things like Harassment, hostile work environment, etc...
I agree but I worked in HR before and when people quit I ALWAYS asked why so it did not bite us later.

I hope to be in that position in the next 10 years or so. After that, I can just do part-time consulting or something.

I'm too young to quit. I gotta keep going, unfortunately.

Plus, I'd be too bored and lonely at home. You start to realize how boring it is to have nothing to do everyday when you literally have nothing to do everyday.

Many people say this, but I think I'd take a chance and find new hobbies. :)

Yea either kids or hobbies. My grand father retired and just sat in his chair and watched TV. Did not last more than 5 years before he died.

I work on cars on the side/weekends for money and have a 1973 Chevy I am working on. Let alone a 3year old going on 4 next month.

I could spend 10 lifetimes of not working, and doing exactly what I wanted, and it wouldn't be enough time. Anyone that says there's nothing to do isn't putting enough thought into it.

You actually do find stuff to do unless it's in your nature to be lazy. My job is pager duty based and I'm rarely ever called in to go do actual work. So I spend the day playing games [single player/mmo's], checking on hot deals to resell for a profit, learn something new [currently in the CS50x Introduction to Computer Science I at edx.org], etc.

It's really not surprising to hear retirees [who sit on their ass all day] die within a short period after they stop working. You have to do something - find a hobby, go for long walks, etc - keep the body moving.

I used to believe this but right now the only reason I go to work is because I need to keep earning an income. If I had the financial ability to do so I would never set food in an office again. There are plenty of far more fulfilling and enjoyable ways to spend your day than sitting at a desk.

Yeah, I laugh when people say that "If I won the lottery, I'd still work." That's insane unless you're REALLY close to some sort of milestone that would also REALLY benefit you financially. If so, work until then and then quit.

As I tell my wife and friends, if I won a big lottery tomorrow, I'd probably break my fingers dialing the phone to quit. :D

Sometimes I daydream of selling everything and moving to Central/South America or Asia and buying a beachfront property and retiring. Wife and I could fish and garden to pass time. If not for my 9yr daughter, I might have. Right now I have to settle for Florida beach trips. But once my daughter finishes college, I'm retiring.

I hope to be more financially independent in about 10 years, if I can figure out a way to raise kids cheaply without losing my wife's income or we decide against them entirely. Our cars are paid off and will be driven into the ground. My wife's student loans should be gone this year. I only have a few years left on my student loans, plus the mortgage. If our income and expenses stay where they are, relative to inflation, we should be able to pay off the house within 10 years. Having monthly bills of just utilities, groceries, entertainment, etc. would be awesome.

It makes no sense why quitting would get unemployment benefits. The only reason might be if it was due to health issues.

No unemployment if you can't work (health issues).

In SC, you can draw benefits if you quit but you're discounted for 6 months (iirc).
