Just ordered my Gainward Fx5900 256MB card =)

How can I OC the processor without physically unlocking it? Change the settings in bios? Anyone have a link on how to do this? Thanks

You're a braver man than I. You wouldn't see me spending $600 for something that a $362 card or $492 card has no problem matching for the most part.

ur money, ur choice, wtf do ppl flame u for it, i have no clue. run with ur new v-card, run with it, like u r da sh!t.

Exactly! People should just keep quiet and let people buy what they want,I swear AT is becoming more like RAGE3D forums everyday

You can't post a thread about something that 90% of people see as a "bad buy" and NOT expect to get any ribbing

That's like posting a babe thread and not expecting someone to yell "PICS" in the OT forum

If by years to come you mean 6 months, then yes...

And i agree with NFS4, you could have gotten the same performance for hundreds less. You then could take that money and get a better mobo/cpu.

I guess I`m in the minority then that RESPECTS what other members here buy with their money whatever it may be.

I fully understand the decision to buy it...it could be those once-a-year "what the heck" moments, when you get something you want, whether it makes perfect sense or not. and that 5900 is STILL one heck of a card.

Different strokes for different folks people! To each is own. Ragging on someone because of their taste in *anything* is poor taste.

If you were thinking of buying a 5800 Ultra today and I tried to stop you, I'd hope you'd take that as friendly advice 🙂

haha, 5900 Ultra for <$250 once the 6 series come out! 5900 is expensve NOT because its powerful, but because of technological process used to produce it. Apparently, just as 256bit memory, it is really expensive. But they're introducing innovations every day, cutting prices tremendously. almost 3x the price of 9700 Pro for the 1,15x of the 9700 Pro?
One of the market concepts: consumers dictate the prices. If the consumer is willing to pay a lot of $$$ for nVidia's failures in the "space-race" - than its his fault. Because if noboy bought it, it would become cheaper, but nVidia might be on a verge of bankruptcy in this case. So, Futher, i have to thank you, cuz you contributed to establishing a pure competition, thus making ATI 9700 Pros available to people like me for less than 250 dollars.
600 bux for a card? Damn.

Modded sig for Futher 😉.

Futher:"I`ve a Gainward FX 5900 Ultra. I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed, insulted or numbered! My card is my own."

dont you mean second fastest card the planet has seen? on a serious note, please dont brag about it to your college friends, then you'll really get flamed 🙂

Think of it this way. You got the money free, So therefore you got the card free. How's that work for ya? 😉
Enjoy the card. I'm envious.

He only paid ~$73 more than the 9800 Pro 256mb...

For $73 more he got what HE wanted so I really dont understand what the big friggin deal is. You guys make it sound like he paid $200 more than ATI's comparable card, no he paid $73 more. Leave him alone, go flame someone on the Rage3D forums.

5800 Ultra? Wasn't that recalled merchandise? 😉

Friends shouldn't let friends buy GFMX's either! 🙂

I don't understand you people and your RAdeon 9800 talk. Alright, first of all, a lot of us in the world are loyal to NVIDIA, I know I am. Just as I'm loyal to Creative and Intel. I go for the big names, the name brand, because I can trust that their products are good (What's a 5800 ultra...? 😛 ) Second, he should buy what he wants. Third, if I had a card like that, and I will soon, I'm gonna play my games at high resolution, with all my detail, AA and AF turned all the way up. And in those situations, the 5900 Ultra is clearly better than the 9800.

Nice card. I want to get one too, but don't have the money now. The thing that is scaring me is when I bought my GeForce 4 Ti4600 when it first came out, it was $400 dollars (same when I had a GeForce 3) and now vid card manufacturers are charging 450+ for new cards. I like living on the bleeding edge, so I can suck it up. It is your money, and I hope you enjoy the purchase. One question I have for you when you receive it. It is very noisy? Can you hear it over your system fans in 3d mode? Congrats, and good luck.

Why show loyalty to a company that only cares about your money? What have they done for you personally? Nothing? They've been known to fraud benchmark numbers, same as ATI has before also. You really should shop for the best piece of equipment at the best price. Loyalty is stupid cause you'll only get burned (by a stupid $600 video card). Sorry but in my eyes I'd rather spend $3XX (like NFS said) than double that for a performance game that your eyes cant even see. When you can tell the difference between 190 and 200FPS, give me a call.

Can you buy me something?

I personally think you made a poor choice. I really don't understand the concept of loyalty in a videocard. Go for the best card you can get for the price - and the GFX doesn't qualify as that. I dunno...something like a 9700pro (~250!) + new CPU+new mobo would have sounded like a better deal

But the reason you have so many people touting the radeons because right now they are the best cards.

Its like spending 20,000 on an escort and talking about american pride and then complaining when people say that you could have spent that on an Accord instead.

EDIT:

As for the benchies where the 5900FX "destroys" the ATI line...isn't that in the standard timedemos officially supported by Nvidia?

see, the thing is the 256mb of ram on the 9800 pro is useless so that would be a waste of money as well

None of the high end cards can run Neverwinter nights maxed out (1600x1200) w/ full AA & AF at over 60fps. But the Nvidia does it better than the Radeon.

Nvidia has consistently given great performing products, that's what they've done for me. And a true power user doesn't see price tags. When I built my system, it was the best of the best, aside from the vid card, which i'm upgrading now... I payed a premium for it, $600 bucks for the processor. But it was worth it to be the best for about 2 weeks... damn 3.2C....

ANyways, so I won't have a problem paying $600 to have the best vid card. Even if it's just barely the best.

A) it is not necessarily the best, as many reviews will say the 9800 pro is the best
B) the "true" power user who doesnt look at price tags is either really rich or really stupid
