Was on Newegg for $565. I know that's tons of money, but I just got a lot of money for graduation, and I need this for college. Please don't flame about price or "you should have gotten the Radeon!". I've had ATI all my life, want to venture on the other side of the fence for once.

Would the Zalman Heatpipe work better than the stock Gainward heatsink and fan?

i'm all for trying something new, but couldn't you have waited a little bit before dropping almost $600 on a video card. Honestly, that's kinda stupid because you can get a Radeon 9700 for about $200 and it offers similar performance, heck you could have even got the 9800 for $400.

He wanted to try Nvidia for a change, besides it`s his money ;).

Futher you going to do a clean install? If not then get DriverCleaner 1.8 .

You're going to immediately trash your warranty on a $600 card that has no track record for endurance? You're a brave brave man...

BTW, post your 3dmark01 and 03 scores when you get this thing.

VERY nice, sell off that 2200+ and go higher :)

I don't have the power spec in front of me, but I'm sure the NV35 would overwhelm the heat removal capacity of the Zalman HPC. Try the stock cooling solution first, even if you have no intention of increasing cock speed.

You should specify it's an FX 5900 ultra and props to buying one of the most obscenely fast cards in existance.

Don't use the Zalman, at those heat levels you might fry it! If you do try it, put a temperature probe on it and see if it punches 70 degrees.

Yeah, no need to cool with the Zalman. And I said in the first post not to flame about the price.

dude...I will flame you about the price! WHy not buy the 9800Pro that you can get NOW and have same or better performance depending on the situaton? Then you could have gotten a faster CPU and stuff with the rest...more/faster memory? better case/cooling? Tons of options...dropping 6 bills on a video card is not my idea of upgrading. That card would be crippled by your athlon I bet

Maybe because he was curious about Nvidia and wanted to try something new? Why drink a pepsi when you can stick with your regular coke? Why try colgate when you can stick with crest? What if one is more expensive, does that mean you will switch? Are you going to buy a pepsi or coke just on the basis of it's price?

I know it's not a direct correlation, but this is something I don't understand. Are you going to flame someone about the price they paid for something, if they wanted it? Are you going to flame someone for buying a P4 3.0C when they could very well have had a 2800+ for a significantly lower price? It seems absurd to me.

If you play dark age of camelot, there is a horrible geforce FX series bug that effects the entire line. When standing in certain areas of the game you fall to less than 1fps per 5 seconds. Relogging does not fix, changing drivers does not fix, etc... If you very slowly move yourself out of the region, then you can return to normal, but its a horrible bug.

1024 will be a bottleneck? I can understand the processor hindering the card, but 1024 should be fine for now.

@ 1.8ghz it may be limiting the card a bit but not by tooo much...

Crank that FSB up and see if you can hit 2ghz. That along with the higher bus should give that FX some more head room...

Even if you wanted to try the other side, which Im all for. I have owned both, but I rarely get the top shelf card. I get one step down from top. I have no idea whether the zalman is better than the stock or not. It looks like a tough call. Zalman has more metal and is silent, but from what I hear the new FX coolers arent as loud as the old ones. Your also forgetting about Thermaltakes heatpipe similiar to the zalman but with the edition of a fan. I forget the name of it though.

If you make sure the new HSF is removable and reattach old one then an RMA to gainward would not be a problem.

I'm all for buying the card if you have the money to spare. Hell, if I could afford one, I'd own one!!

I don't think his system is a real issue as far as the card being slower because of it. I doubt the XP 2200 will have any dificulty overclocking to 2.2 ghz and higher, (as my XP- 2100 runs at 2275mhz, air cooled). Memory can be tweaked a little (5-7%), and the FSB can be boosted.
