Thank you NewEgg for helping me blow my money!

Review for the normal one...

Hopefully it will OC a bit more too ;) Should provide 6800GS like performance at the res I use on my projector, 800*600 even with the eye candy turned up at around 1/3 to 1/2 the power consumption, plus no noisy damn fan to contend with.

Thoughts on this new card? ~$150 is probably too much, but for ~$125 it would be an unbeatable deal.

Nat

*Side note - I am replacing my 3.0C @ 3.75/6800GT w/Zalman/Aopen 875P with a EVGA SLI mobo/3700+/& this card. Any idea where to find an SLI connect for this? EVGA/Jetway made it optional and my $75 version didn't come with one :p

These in SLI would be pretty killer for lower res gaming & high AA levels with very minimal noise and power consumption. Heck, SLI'ing these should take as much power as 1 (!) 7600GT. Thanks in advance if you can help me out!

How does that card compare to a 6800GT?? How about a 6800GT clocked 400/1100???

You are going to find out shortly, my friend :D

My GT doesn't do 400/1100, but it does 405/1.07 just fine, and that is what we are going to have to work with. The 3.75 northy vs 3700+ San Diego should be kind of fair... kind of ;) I'll be testing at 800*600, but could throw it on a monitor for some higher res action to get off the CPU...

It's HDCP compliant alright, but I don't know if they are including the little encoder chip as of yet.

Realize that that this has virtually the same fill rate as a 6800GT!

*Basically I am plugging the card to make myself feel better about the splurge I hadn't intended on :p

if I had known the damn 7600GS was going to be released I wouldn't have bought the 7600GT......oh well I guess more performance is never a bad thing.

I was waiting for the 6600 256 meg version of the 7600 series :)

yeah, but that doesn't mention anything about inverse telecine and bad edit correction... without those you'd be better off with a 7300le passive for 1/3 the price

I expect it to feature them, but we don't know at this point.

Well, you asked about the HD acceleration, which it does have. I would highly doubt that they would tamper with the GPU to change it at all (with respect to features) from the one on the 7600GT. They haven't done that so far on that chart.

Plus, I play games with my HTPC, and the 7300LE wouldn't come close to cutting it there.

the current releast is NOT hdcp compliant guys. As long as we keep buying them, they'll keep delaying htpc implementation. The GPU itself is hdcp "ready", but the entire graphic card is not hdpc compliant, which is pointless for HTPCs.

7600GS will support inverse telecine and bad edit correction, it's been discussed at AVS. It's just not official yet.

I woudl reckon with the reduced clocks, it would be on par with a 6800gt. My present 7600gt that i've been using while my 7900gt is on backorder (go go Asus - not!), 3DMark05 scores compared to my old 6800 ultra:

Score: 5267

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 6800 Ultra

OS: Microsoft Windows XP

are you kidding this card runs HOT AS HELL. it runs 25-30 degrees C hotter than a 7600gt. i would much rather hear a fan than smell something burning. http://hardwarezone.com/articles/view.php?id=1856&cid=3&pg=9 "With such high temperatures recorded even in the cool confines of our air-conditioned labs, end-users who have a badly ventilated casing should have second thoughts before getting one of these cards."

soo... difference between 7600GS and 7600GT is 400mhz core vs 500mhz core? what about memory speed, memory bandwidth and pipes?

are you lazy? lol. the only differences are: gs uses ddr2@800, gt uses ddr3@1400; gs has 400 core speed, gt has 560 core speed. the gs also has slightly less voltage. it runs so damn hot stock that it would catch on fire if you tried to overclock it.

thats exactly why i am trying to warn any potential purchasers. just spend the extra money and get the 7600gt. maybe some manufacturer will put a fan on the 7600gs.

its not just the card you will have to worry about. the card runs atleast 25 degrees C hotter than a 7600gt. a 7600gt is already a pretty warm card. ALL your components will be affected.

I dont see how the card can be so hot.

It is on 90nm lowk plus lower voltage and lower core clock. Having 'air' conditioned room doesnt mean it will cool the card. Good air flow will be just fine. Or if your a OCer just grab a Zalman 700cu or something.

Whatever man :) Heat of the card doesn't matter so much as net energy dissaption of the card. 32W is half as much as a 7600GT no matter how hot the actual card gets.

well 90 degees celcius is hot no matter how you look at it and that was on a stock 7600gs at 400/800. yours is gonna make toast at 500/900.
