I'm calling for pics or this did not happen. You supposed to be some super photographer so lets see what you got.

If he's not trolling, then this 9001%. Reading these threads is like rubber necking at an accident, you just can't help it.

He really needs a scroll. I mean, think back on all the stuff that's been posted. Him camping out in his parent's backyard, sleeping in his car, losing BunBun are just a few of the events that come to mind.

Re^^

While FBB bitched a lot he did accomplish this. Somehow he got himself online and to a hostel.

Yea, I'll give him credit for that. The bitchiness is kind of irritating, but if he makes his way through China, I suppose I can let that slide. It's better to not be negative from the start though.

OK, since you're not an ass,, I decided to give you a skeleton plan.

Get to main cites by either bus or train.
Get a bike.
Stash your the non essentials in either storage, or hostel and travel light on bike excursions.
Take pics.
Write book (I want 10% of proceeds).

I was in Beijing this past summer. Check out the Square, Forbidden City, and the Summer Palace (great for photography imo). Check google out for other places. For night life you can go to either Sanlitun or Ho Hai. Sanlitun is way more busy and active and I would say Ho Hai is a more relaxed area.

They will be in the same folder as his Hawaii pics!

Oh, and hey, FBB, where are those Hawaii pics again?
:biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:
😕😕😕

lol yeah for a photographer I would have expected a pic before he even got off the plane. The plane alone is an awesome place to take pics. I went in a plane for the first time a few years ago and had over 100 pics before I even got to my destination.

It was supposed to be a family trip with the parents and following them around. It's their first time in 27 years going back to China. So I got all visa and plane ticket for 2 months purchased. Couple days ago parents told me they won't get their visa so I'm now on an unplanned trip with no direction and no idea how to get anywhere. I don't read or write Chinese, and I can't speak it well at all.

wtf 2 month stay? how are you going to get money to eat and live?

Parents didn't just cancel their trip. Their Visa application got held up indefinitely (they're members of a religious group called Falun Gong which the government considers to be a state enemy - Falun Gong is basically a Buddhist sect).
I had a thought"wonder if they're Falun Gong" when I first read the OP.
Yep, State Enemies List. That'll hold up things a bit. They should have their heads examined, wanting to go BACK into the mouth of the lion. I appreciate their longing to see their ancestral homes again, But the Communists have made it plain they do not accept FG members. 😱
Try to have some fun FBB!

You do know there are banks there, right?

dude 2 months of traveling around china is fucking $$$$$ i didnt know photographers were so well off to to afford a trip such as this. PLUS not knowing how to read, write or speak chinese he has to pay some person to translate for him nearly everyday.

I went on vacation in China last spring. Are you planning on staying in Beijing, or traveling around the country? There are tons of cultural things to see in Beijing, but when you run out of things, I would recommend a train trip, or fly if you have the cash, to Xian. I there are tons of cultural things to see in Xian, and just a little bit outside of the city (the Big Wild goose pagoda and the Shanxi museum were my favorite), but the city wall is cool, as well as the park by the Wild Goose Pagoda, the emperor’s tomb, the Grand Mosque, and best of all, a little bit outside of Xian is Haushan. Doing the long plank sky walk on Huashan was the real reason that I went to China, and it was fantastical in a crazy I hope I don’t die sort of way.

Why do you think it's expensive? It can be super expensive or super cheap. It all depends on you. If you're staying at 5 star $1,000/ day luxury hotel and need Western services and food, yes it's going to be expensive. If you're staying at hostels and eating local food and entertainment like Fuzzy, it's going to be dirt cheap and easily done on couple thousand dollars. Families take $5-10k vacations all the time. Are all these families rich? His business and occupation as photographer/entrepreneur affords him this luxury of time and money.

he didnt go over for business, it was a family trip... a 2 month long family trip.

but hey im just point out that he went to a foreign country with no planning, no job while there, doesn't know the language or customs. doesn't know anybody.... mom and dad belong to a cult that the Chinese government labels as enemy of the state he is lucky he does not get picked up by the Chinese police for a bit of questioning.

I'm f*cked.

wait.. are you the guy that was an asst mgr at 7-11, quit because of anxiety, then becames a salesman at some electronics store?

no.. getting u mixed up w/Locutus.
What happened to him? havent seen any of his threads in a while.

And who are you again? the guy who took a Pickup Artist class??

He operates his business remotely. He can work from anywhere in the world as long as he has internet access. He has GSM Galaxy Nexus phone so the internet part is easy. His contractors/employees in the States do the actual physical work and he takes his cut. He has developed his business over the last couple of years so that it can run on its own without him being physically present. So he can live anywhere and travel if he wants and still make money. Fuzzy has mentioned he wants to expand his business to China to take advantage of the many opportunities there. Well, he's there now. He might as well enjoy it.

Yeah. I stopped planning when it just got too complicated. Too many hard or impossible to find train schedules, bus schedules, and other logistics to plan. I had about 8 destinations in mind but stopped after the second one because it just got retarded.

Many people don't realize this, but having your own car and personal, affordable mode of transportation is a GODSEND. Imagine having to negotiate an entire country the size of the US just on public transport and still retain some freedom to go where you want, when you want, and have fun. And to do it cheaply. The thought of traveling on rails and missing EVERYTHING the train passes through sucks big time. The thought of being left alone in a park when I want to stay to shoot the stars sucks. The thought of hiring a taxi for an entire day or going on a restricted tour bus to see things sucks.

There's tons to do near Beijing. As far as getting around you should fly. That country is as big as the USA and there's a lot to see. Plane tickets are relatively cheap. I don't think they cost me more than about $100 per leg.

The language barrier is going to be a problem. You need to solve that. I had chinese friends with me who spoke english.

Amen, I live in China and spend about $3 a day on food... and I eat awesome local stuff.. along with all of my hostel experience costing no more than $5 a night.. You can make your way around China using public transportation and hostels for very very little money.

China is cheap. Even if you want to live it up you would struggle to spend a lot of money. I stayed in 4 star hotels for $40 a night when I needed to recharge my batteries.

Fuck. I want those hand made noodles now. Those were awesome. So hungry.

You wouldn't happen to be in Beijing and want to show someone round would you? 😉

It can get difficult finding schedules... but any hostel you stay at will have a complete list of things to do and see and a complete list of all available trains from the nearest station to wherever they go and you can purchase your ticket there.. Hostels and Google have made traveling simple, just don't get overwhelmed and scare yourself with information. Let them do the work and just ask what there is to do near wherever you're at. You'll find yourself getting great deals on mini buses with other travelers, meeting new people, seeing a ton of popular and lesser known attractions. Everything will be fine...

I def recommend making it down to Ningbo area to see a less crowded and pretty clean part of China... and I can let ya crash here for a couple days and show ya around.
