Just landed in Beijing. I have no idea what to do.

I've got two months to burn in this country. Anyone ever gotten a temporary drivers license and rented a car here before?

Yell repeatedly, "THE JAPANESE ARE THE RIGHTFUL OWNERS OF DIAOYU!" Then proceed to piss on every statue of Mao that you come across.

I assume you speak some kind of Chinese? If not, that would be a good place to start. Go to the library and learn Chinese.

why are you there?

It was supposed to be a family trip with the parents and following them around. It's their first time in 27 years going back to China. So I got all visa and plane ticket for 2 months purchased. Couple days ago parents told me they won't get their visa so I'm now on an unplanned trip with no direction and no idea how to get anywhere. I don't read or write Chinese, and I can't speak it well at all.

Find a guide / Interpreter to show you around. Like that guy who phonied up the Foxconn story allegedly did. Got Camera? Be photojournalist.

I'm sure you'll manage. If you're really that concerned, just go to Hong Kong and hang with the white folk. It won't be that bad.

Goodness, OP went 1/2 around the world to another country and you guys want him to eat at McD? At least go to a local place and try it out. If a place is crowed with the locals = safe to eat.

Can you just walk around and enjoy the sight seeing? Be friendly and enjoy new culture and way of life. Just be careful, don't be a obnoxious tourist, watch out for pick pocket, and please don't be the typical "ugly American". Take pictures.

You should have gone in February of next year for Lunar New Year, much more fun.

Safe to eat and want to eat are 2 very different things.

Come on... WTH is wrong with you?

Find people to drink with, find more people to party with after that, be friendly, find people who are going to do the same thing tomorrow and hang out with them. Keep doing that for two months.

Just try to not get arrested.
Nada. Try and get a car? I have no idea how to negotiate the public transportation here.
Driving in China isn't like driving anywhere else in the developed world, except possibly around the Arc de Triomphe

Not quite true. It's safe for them to eat there. Not necessarily safe for you.
