I just had my interview at 3:00 pm today. I can tell you it wasen't a normal interview as they didn't ask the typical interview questions like tell me about yourself etc....
The office was very laid back. Like jeans and shirt type of thing. The two peple who were on my interview panel were the director of IT and a senior dba admin. The director of IT was asking me a lot of little personal and behavioral based questions.
1. What got you in IT. (he started talking about his 17 yo daughter and how she changes her major every couple of semester)
2. What was your most interesting class and most challenging class?
3. What made you come to X etc..... Where are you from etc...
The DBA was asking me a lot of pointy DBA related questions like what are joins, unions, etc....
The DBA tested my knowledge directly
At the very end of the questioning the both of them asked "is there anything we don't know from you that we need to know" (after and hour). I said you pretty much covered everything. They said yeah. "We make a pretty tough interview because we want to make sure we know who we are hiring".
He also said when they made the job title they put a lot of crazy shit in the min requirements. He said that if he were to hire someone with all those min qualification he would have to pay them more then 100K but that's not his plan. He wanted someone that has knowledge of some and he can teach the rest. He said that I was very qualified for the position.
The director said he has to go through the whole interview pool because it seems I was the first they interviewed. The DBA guy was taking me out of the building and said he dosen't know what will happen but there is another database s job that has similar qualifications and if there is any problem he will consider me for that one as well.
So how do you know if you got hired or not. There seem to be signs that I did and seem to be signs that they might pass over me....
