Depending on the severity of the infection the pain could last a few days, the pain you are feeling right now is due to the infection. Had she drilled further you WOULD have felt it, the infection would have prevented penetration of the novacain to the center of the infection and the nerve would have still been active. My GF had an infected and abscsed tooth that she started to feel the deeper he got so he did what she did to you, stuck a temp filling in and sent her home with a prescription for penecillian. As the wound drains out and the infection dies the pain will fade away to the point of almost being gone.

I suspect you are right again because near the end I started feeling a bit of pressure "pain" (i wouldn't really call it pain, but i don't know how to describe it). I know the infection isn't entirely gone...that part of the tooth/abscess was still too acidic to be affected by the drugs. Hopefully it will be completely cleared up by monday so my next one can be pain free as well *crosses finger*

the pain now though is completely 100% gone

i've got a cavity that i need to get filled SOON. it hurts whenever i do the simplest of things, like swishing water around in my mouth. but i hate the dentist! 🙁

That's exactly what I had, and what did i do? kept putting it off when the pain went away! Fill it NOW!!!!! If you do it soon then it's just a simple filling...wait like I did and you will get an infection and require a root canal

Last root canal I had, I went back to work the same day. 🙂

amish

Did you initially have pain afterwards?

Sometimes it can take a day or two for everything to simmer down,I'm assumiing she didn't kill all the nerves which is why you've gotta go back ?

Yeah the infection is still there. I had only been taking anti-biotics for about 4 days before today...it is clearing up but not gone. She says the whole thing is going to take 3 visits. Thank god for my mom's health plan (and if i wasn't an enrolled college student i wouldn't get it cause i'm too old!) which covers 90% of all dental costs. Today alone was like $250....$750+ for the whole procedure...then god knows how much for the crown which I will be sure to get (not right away).

Are dental costs similar in the US?

I've got an awesome dentist (I am deathly afraid of dentists) this guy also has a degree in psych and specialiezs in cowards like me... but the best costs... close to 2k per tooth including the crown.

This was my first major dental thing, not even a filling before this...anything in the past has been "looks good, keep up the good work!"...so if she screwed up and gave me pain i would need one of these specialists too cause i would be scarred for life and forever fear dentists 😀

My guy is awesome, lol, before major work I get pre-medicated, he has a tv facing the chair and always has some amusing video to show me, he puts pics and stuff up on the ceilings and he gasses the hell out of me
and tells me the funniest jokes while he's working on me !! It is *almost* pleasant to go there 🙂

Oh and yes, you get "prizes" for being a good patient and not biting the dentist, hehe last time I got silly
putty and sugarless gum 🙂
