Just got soft contacts...

On a related note of contacts...does anyone elses' eyes create more eye matter when wearing them? I've tried quite a few types/brands, but could never find a type that worked for me, so I went back to glasses. My eyes always seemed irritated and itchy and I had to use moisturizing drops frequently - probably the cause of excessive eye matter.

Recently, I've been thinking about LASIK instead. I've given up on contacts, I think. OP, what brand did you get and while wearing them, do you find them irritable? And yes, wash your hands and dry them with something that doesn't leave fibers behind any time you put in or take out the contacts.

yep, pinch low. In fact, just pull your lower eyelid down with your offhand, and pinch low that way. My doc actually recommended I take them out this way, much easier.

The trick is not to be scared and put some pressure onto my eye. I guess that's what I was doing wrong. In pinching I was so light that it just pushed the contact lens a bit. Once I applied a bit more pressure, I snatched that sucker right out.

Getting the hang of this now.

But dang, soft lenses are dry as hell. I used to never put drops for my hard lenses, but they're a must on these soft lenses or else they start annoying me.

Try the Opti-Free re-wetting drops if you want a recommendation. I wear my lenses overnight and change them once a month (extended wear). Putting in a couple drops in the morning and the evening is a big help.

1. make sure you dont have long fingernails
2. wash your hands well
3. dry your hands
4. place light pinch pressure on the lens and try to slide it downwards
5. pinch and remove

'Pinching' is not the hard part. It's when the lens gets glued to your eye and doesn't wanna break loose. At least that was the issue early on- now it never happens, so I think it's just a technique thing. You'll get better.

You gotta just look straight at your finger, make light contact, and slide the lens down. It'll wrinkle and be easy to grab. I have never in my life heard the term 'peel' used with contacts. Do not 'peel.'

Putting them in takes a bit more finesse, but you can 'cheat'. I just let my eye kinda roll back, since that's what it's gonna go, and shove that bitch in my eye. The trick is not doing the reflexive 'there's something in my eye' twitch, and slowly rolling your eye around to let the lens slide into place.

If the optometrist did not teach you how to do this stuff, hit him with a pipe.
