i think that xm will have better luck with streaming video then sirius will (whether they plan to start anytime soon though, is anybodys guess) as they have geosynchronous satellites vs. sirius' 3 satellites that rotate over the country. the broadcast cost will be 33% cheaper for xm. i still think i know who is going under...

WTF does the satellite's orbit have to do with streaming video? Absolutely nothing!! You think XM will have better streaming video? Unlike Sirius, they haven't even made plans, let alone conducted a full working test. Right, you seemto know what you're talking about....![]()

Just because they have not announced plans, does not mean that plans do not exist. I'm those people that think that sirius will not have to launch new satellites for 15 years are joking themselves. Sirius has serious (pardon the pun) financial trouble right now, and they are going to have to replace their satellites within 5 years, guaranteed. If you don't think that xm will have better streaming video, just wait and seeBelieve it or not, I do know what I'm talking about.
sirius will not, however 'go under' per se... they will be bought out, which, as far as I'm concerned, is the same thing. my guess is that Verizon will buy sirius soon after the launch of the new sirius satellites and their immediately succeeding bankruptcy filing.
That orbit height and footprint size stuff is crap. Doing research on a sirius fanboy bulletin board is hardly conclusive. Check your sources.

One doesn't necessarily have to be in said car to listen to satellite radio. What made me chose Sirius over XM was that I could get a live stream through an Internet connection at work. As I type, I am listening to channel 63 without having to use a P&P unit.

Bah, if I wanted to hear that I'd just hook my iPod in the car, or burn an mp3 CD. Not worth it unless they have live DJ shows such as Cosmic "Strictly Skillz" Kev or DJ Ren on the 1's and 2's from Philly playing that hot sh*T (hiphop). HFS (Wash DC) also plays little known college bands on the weekends which I really enjoy.Originally posted by: TubStain

No, that is not available. Satellite radio content is created and managed by the parent company. Sirius has 61 different music genres, and plays music that caters to each genre on its channels. So if you dont like hip hop, you have the option of never having to hear it again. But it's a channel that is available.
It has NO commericals on the music streams, and is near CD quality sound (think MP3). Sirius also rolling out Dolby pro logic II surround sound on its music streams.

I don't think XM or Sirius will be able to fully compete unless they have shows such as aforementioned... unless you live in the boon docks (which is probably 70%of the US that isn't metropolitan) and your radio stations severely suck balls, enough that all of your CD's/mp3's have been played already, then it might be worth it. Hope they have alot of country music stations... lol

Ah, but did you research Sirius or XM to see what content they do play? Sirius has a "Left of center" stream that my alternative underground friend loves. It has a Jam station and other alternative rock streams that cater to college band music as well as live performances from Sirius studios in New York. This is more than radio.... it's entertainment and you will get your worth.
If you are into Trance, DJ victor Dinare plays a couple live sets every week in the evening, and they also have a program from GrooveRadio that airs weekly.
