Yeah, he was saying I said they were the most comfortable ever, but he was to busy to notice I never said that.

I'm sure the higher end senns are awesome, but I can't justify spending the extra money for something I use every now and then.

Arguing speakers/headphones is a no win situation because everyone's ears are different, and some speakers sound great to one person, but crappy to another. There is also the variable of what sort of things you use them for...be it games, music, etc...

Edit:

Just realized he couldn't even tell the difference between me and Confused. I never mentioned the 515's, nor have I ever had them.

Disagree. I've had three sets of open style Senns, and they can't compare to the HD280 Pro's. I can wear them for hours without "sweating" as well. The noise cancellation properties of them are awesome. I used them on a flight down to Florida, and it drowned out almost all the cabin noise...and I was right on the wing near the engine.

I'm curious what makes you think open style "sound better"?

what makes putting closed plastic cups over your ear sound better? theres a reason open headphones exist, even through they leak noise and let outside noise in. if it had no advantage, they would not exist no?

i was going to get the 280s until I got a good deal on the 590s. The 590s are so comfortable it is obsurd. They are open air which can be a problem for people, but since i basically only use them in my apartment they are great for me.
they sound stellar too.

That really didn't answer my question. I think the fact that I can't hear any outside noise and only my music let's me keep things at a lower volume, and I hear more deatils than with open air ones. Personally, the argument that they must have an advantage because they exist seems silly. Both styles seem to be suited for different needs...

I love my 280s. I haven't experienced a problem with any part of the headband breaking (or any other part of them breaking for that matter) as another poster mentioned, but then I take very good care of them. I have experienced the issue with comfort... It's not weight or anything, just that they're quite tight - and I don't even have a very wide head. They do break in a bit and I'm currently very happy with them, though at some point I wouldn't mind a higher end pair of Senns paired with an amplifier.

i asked because you seemed like you should already know. sealed are less comfortable, for there to be a point to sealed closed back headphones they have to headclamp a bit. and well theres the sweat and stuff... with open headphones you listen to the driver only. not the resonance of a plastic cup used to seal it off from the world. head in a bucket... they have their purposes, when sound cannot be leaked, or if the enviroments noisy, but dollar for dollar, its easier to make a good sounding open headphone then closed...

open up headphones, put sticky tack in the plastic parts where possible on the outside of the casing.

I still don't agree. My HD280Pro's are no more or less comfortable than my open HD495's. I don't have any problem with them becoming uncomfortable or any sweat after 2+ hours of using them.. They do clamp a bit more than my 495's, but nothing that is uncomfortable.

Also, you make it sound like all closed headphones sound like crap and resonate like "plastic cups". I can't speak for all, but this is not the case with my 280's. I notice that I hear a lot more minute details with them over the 495's because they block out all the external sound, and unlike the open style 495's I don't need to crank them to full volume to listen at the volume level I prefer.

You also are not taking into account certain kinds of usage being more suited for closed style, while other types of usage work better with open style. Personally, I think you are being overly simplistic comparing the two styles. There are good closed headphones, and bad open air ones....and vice versa.

well those are a bad comparison because they are supraaural. better comparison would be the hd590's.. uber comfort.
