When your iPod/iPhone has Uncharted then you can talk. PSP Vita is obviously not for you if you think games on phones are actual games. I see them more as time killers if I have like 10 minutes or so.

Though the hardware is similar, the iPhone is a bigger threat to the 3DS than it is to the PSVita. Both Apple and Nintendo are aggressively trying to court the casual market. Apple wins on all fronts. The beauty of instant gratification.

i'm not to excited about the vita. the lack of umd support pisses me off. it was one of the main reasons for the fialure of the PSP go.

while the hardware on the vita is outstanding its going ot have to do something to really wow me. right now im not impressed. i like to be able to trade games and buy them used.

The UMD was one of the main reason for the failure of the PSP. Slow, battery hog, etc.

The PS Vita is using cards like the Nintendo DS/3DS. You'll still be able to trade games and buy them used.

You mean like what Nintendo did with the Wii? :hmm:

This is why other electronics giants need to learn form Apple. They announce something, it's out a month later. Drives sales before the buzz dies off.

there is also the microsoft strategy. hype upcoming products for years and ship with half the features. Windows 7 is missing features XP was supposed to have

I dunno, being slow didn't hurt the Sony PlayStation over the Nintendo 64 and its much faster cartridges. I also don't think the UMD drive is the battery hog people assume it is. My old MiniDisc player lasted 12 hours spinning a similiar sized disc with a much smaller battery.

There's actually been somewhat more PSPs sold worldwide as there have been of either the PlayStation 3 or the Xbox 360. Sure, it's distant second to the Nintendo DS in the handheld market, but overall I don't Sony has any reason to view the PSP as a failure.

It's a failure not in terms of how many units were sold but in how many games were actually produced and sold for it. Piracy and a lack of platform support really did the PSP in.

Yeah, honestly, the PSP has always had a really nice design to their system, and though I've yet to touch one yet, I can't wait!

If piracy was the problem then the Nintendo DS would have been a bigger failure than the N-Gage.

I think it's more the latter than the former. The PSP didn't have very many standout titles. A lot of games for it were lacklustre console "ports".

That's why I'm pleased to see a strong software lineup this time around. There's no reason why portable games have to be second rate compared to what TV top consoles offer.

They are opening it with a strong line up of games and hopefully other studios will follow.

I know a Bioshock game is being produced for the Vita.

I posted in the Sony E3 thread that it would be using a proprietary memory stick-like format. It's all on the Wiki page for the PSV.

I think once the games come down hard on the PSP, it'll be a success... I almost feel that the PSP only had a FEW games that were stellar. Besides that, it was barely there... or maybe people who "mobile game" are really looking MORE for games that are geared towards angry birds and plants vs. zombies?

Ugh, there's one thing I really hope they fix with the PSV. I went to use my PSP today for the first time in maybe... a month or two, and as usual... the battery's drained. For kicks, I decided to see what state my Nintendo DS was in after probably about... a year or two of never being turned on. My DS is at full battery power still. :\

The Vita definitely cannot be nearly as abysmal when it comes to battery leeching while turned off as the PSP is. :\ If it is, I'll just return the damn thing... I won't put up with it again.

Turning off the PSP normally just puts it into standby mode. Turning off the Nintendo DS actually turns it off completely, so it uses much less power. You need to hold the power off slider in the off position in for a few seconds to completely turn off the PSP.

The Vita will probably work the same way as there's no lid to close to put it into standby mode like the DS.

Also the PSP Vita is going to be using an ARM SoC so it should be efficient since it's basically using mobile phone technology with a bigger battery.

hopefully, it'll be like laptops... you can put it in standby mode, and it wont eat the battery like crazy! in fact, I think it barely eats the battery... just enough to support the ram! STR FTW!

It's hard to say the Vita was pushed back when there was never a release date for it in the first place and Sony's Jack Tretton had previously said that it would likely be Japan by the end of 2011 and the first quarter of 2012 for NA and EU.

I think it's safe to say any release date past Christmas 2011 is not what Sony was hoping for. Nintendo recently said they regretted not being able to release the 3DS in time for the 2010 Christmas season.

Standby is nice, and I'm 99% sure it'll have it, but I'm more interested in whether or not it'll have a pause function where it creates a single save state in a game that you can go back to later. The PSP go had this, and is the number one reason why I prefer the go.

The only limitation was that you can only save the state of one game at a time.

Hell, I'm hoping something like this eventually makes it's way into consoles.
