I just installed Firefox 5 minutes ago - the security problems with IE - well, let's say that I've had enough of that mess.

I do, however, think the tabs feature is kickass!

Try using the middle click to open links in a new tab 🙂 Best feature !

Also, middle clicking ON a tab will close it. Just so ya know ....

One thing I'd like to see in tabbed browsing would be if the text on the TAB itself, instead of just being text, was actually like the address box, so you could type a new address in it and not need the seperate address box that takes up space in the toolbar.

Or maybe there is an extension already that does this ?

...and there's also a "quick reply" feature on these forums that I'm getting using Firefox that I've never seen before using IE 6.

If you knew how to use Fusetalk there would be a quick reply in IE too.

Zuni is too lazy to make quickreply work in Moz like it does in IE, even though I gave him code for it over a year ago.

no

What's the difference?

Firefox
Mozilla
The difference is just the front end. They share their HTML rendering engine and all of the backend stuff. The Moz source code is something like 400MB, and about 2MB of that is different for FireFox. I personally dislike the Firefox "look and feel" - they went the wrong way after Firebird in my opinion. I use Mozilla (and since I use Moz for email, using the suite makes more sense. Thunderbird doesn't share it's memory with Firefox, so you save some RAM by using Moz's browser & mailnews rather than Firebird and Thunderbird).

Opening with middle button I did know about but CLOSING with it I did not know. THANKS!

I like Firefox for the tabs, pop-up blocking, and less spyware, but there are some websites I still need IE to view.

After having tons of problems with Ebay taking too much time to load pages, I downloaded Opera the other day.

Opera is the best piece of software I have downloaded in years. It solved my problems with Ebay and has everything built in to the browser, from newsgroups to email to IRC chats. The interface is user friendly, and the experience is so much better than IE6.

Opera 7.51 is awesome, I tried Firefox on my backup PC and was not that impressed(overhyped IMHO)anyway I`ll stick with Opera 7.51 which is fast, stable and has loads of tweaking features etc....

I just started using Mozilla. When I post hyperlinks they don't show as hyperlinks but text (on another forum), the paste function doesn't seem to be on the right click menu and trying to go back on web pages seems futile. Does Firefox have these same issues?

I have none of those problems... when does the back button not work? Paste is only enabled if you have text on the clipboard - did you copy some text first?

I just downloaded 0.9.1 & the hyperlinks I've visited don't change colors after I've visited them, what can I do to get them to change color after they've been clicked?

Even if it were true, which it's not, it wouldn't be worth paying for and there's no chance of me putting up with a banner on the free edition.

I liked the side bar features on Opera, gave the browser some powerful tools, but I agree with you; the free edition is not worth it b/c of the banner, and no way I'm gonna pay for a web browser.

It's when I reply to a topic, whenever I hit the back button after the reply it doesn't take me 1 page back, I have to hit the back button 4-5x to go back and then it takes me back more then one page.

I copied text from another Mozilla window by highlighting it and copying it like you would with IE, but when I goto paste it I have to select it from the edit window to paste it.

Seems kind of odd, maybe I need to setup the way the browser functions?

FuseTalk does some redirects in the process of a reply. That's probably the cause of the "problem".

Weird. I've noticed occasionally that something that isnt' working will work if I click on some other application (AIM, winamp, notepad, etc), and then back to mozilla. Otherwise, I have no idea. Try going to the Tools menu, and choose "javascript console" - see if there are any errors. You can ignore the pages and pages of "window.event" errors caused by incorrect HTML in FuseTalk.

Its just a matter of functionality for me. After using opera for less than 24 hours I can't see myself going back to IE or OE.. Opera has everything built in, is faster, has tabbed browsing and can be configured a million different ways.. Not only that, you can change the skins to make it look better, and, at least on my system, loads almost as fast as IE.

On another note, how secure are these browsers compared to IE? That's the only thing I'm concerned about, I don't see any web updates or patches for these browsers.

Exactly - they appear to be more secure as is without any security patches. Note that in general, open source projects don't do "patches", but rather up the version number in the least significant place. For example, Apache 2.0.48 might be a security fix to resolve something in 2.0.47. This version numbering system makes it obvious if you aren't up to date, whereas with patches, I have "IE 6.0.xyz.abcd.ijk SP1" and can't really tell.

If you look here, you'll see that no known vulnerabilities exist in anything since Mozilla 1.4.

That's like saying you won't use Word because notepad starts faster.
Hardly. You're saying IE is barebones compared to Firefox which is not even close to being true. Firefox stole IE's ideas and then added a few more of their own.
