LOL! Oh my. Hilarious stuff man. Yeah these sales people 9 times out of 10 just conjure up some random/mismatched "techy" sounding terminology on the spot that they think joe shlub will believe (sadly they usually do). "Oh yes the this one has 240 texalators and GHZ-dd RAMdacs 256Megabits@second. Pixels, high flow fan, energy star etc etc. They basically just think of as many techy "buzz words" as they can and commence their non sensical sales pitch. LOL! It's funny but when they try it on you you want to spray mace in their stupid faces. Then drop kick them into a shelf. lol! Thankfully I only buy online now so I don't deal with those chowderheads anymore.

Wow thats alot of reading!!

Good luck i got the BFG FX5500 OverClocked and the most advanced game im able to play is Team Fortress 2!!!! I have to run 640X480 and i get on average 40fps and sometimes it will drop to 20fps. Theres no way you can play crisis though i couldnt even get quake 4 to play with all settings on low and at 640X480!!

When it comes to gaming with a PCI card you limited to half life and counter strike source.

DEAD THREAD REVIVAL... but a good one nevertheless...

I went to BestBuy the other day to pick up Lost Planet and SupCom (the only thing BestBuy giftcards are good for is games and stuff that is too much of a hassle to buy online).I went in and stood around, pretending not to know jacksh*t about computers, and watched a guy buy a GeForce PCI FX 5200 and another buy a 8600GTS when there was a 8800GT right next to it because "GTS is better". BestBuy makes my brain hurt.

only 82$? I dont know if jojo really bought one or not, but the only practical purpose of a pci video card is if a bios flash on your AGP/PCI-E video card goes bad. I have a PCI video card for when I use eVGA's step up or should the latter be needed. I got mine for like $20, brand/series, doesnt really matter, does it?
Yeah B&M suck in gerneral, but their sales are as good as any other. This $650 laptop cost me $400 ($440 after tax +40$ for a 2GB upgrade via Newegg, so $480 in the end) at BestBuy. I guess if I had time to burn I could go there and see what stupid shiz their sales staff had to suggest but I have better uses of my time.

So John did pretty good, much better than an average Best Buy employee, until you left him little other choice but to make a recommendation between GeForce 6200 and 5200. Given both of those cards only amount to different degrees of complete inadequacy for playing modern games, it really wasn't a significant error. Its not as though his choice was between FX5200 and GF8500, but between Crap and 50% more Crap.

John did A-OK in my book. You, however, not so much.

ROFL. Read threads much?

I can't even believe they are still selling fx5200/5500s. Man such a racket the pci card market. As if people aren't punished enough for not having an AGP or PCI-E slot then they ream schlubs for 149.99 for a x1300!!!! Poor bastards....

It shouldn't be that hard... The bigger number is better, stupids... I wonder what those idiots are going to do with those. If they don't know which cards are good, what's the chance of them stuffing it into a computer without breaking something?

Erm, firstly you should have come here an asked for help when deciding on a new upgrade. The X1550 would have been the better choice in terms of performance and the drivers are fine- however I doubt you'd be able to even install Crysis or UT3 on either of them. But if you are happy at the end of the day with your purchase then good on you.

Whoosh!

I hope that you didn't pay more than $35 for that card! I had a 5700 LE back in the day (about 3 years ago to be precise) and it ran Need For Speed Hot Pursuit 2 pretty good. But you are wanting to play Crysis? 1st of all, you will have no where near enough horsepower to play the game to its full potential, second, I bet you paid $60+ for that card...local retail stores and such like Best Buy will have the same graphics cards as you can find online, but they cost a whole lot more. I was at Best Buy the other day and they had 7300Gs' for $80...you can buy a 7600GT which is like 10X faster for $80 on newegg.com! I think you got hosed on that deal. You can never trust the sales people at those stores, they are trained to get you to buy something that is way overpriced and costs more than what you are really looking for! Just do some research online and you will be able to find the perfect parts you need. Exactly what Dell do you have? It should have a PCI Express x16 or if not, it certainly should have an AGP slot in it.

check your humour. i think its busted.

So I was in Best Buy looking for a new graphix card and wasn't quite sure where to start. It was really confusing almost too many choices! I didn't really have a set price range in mind so pretty much everything was up for grabs. After checking out the cool logoz on more boxes than I could count and reading about some of the different features of the ones I thought l00ked the best I decided on an XFX Fatal1ty GeForce 8500 GT. As everyone knows Fatal1ty is one of the best fps gamerz ever so if he uses it it has to be pretty damn good! Thinking I was getting away with just what I wanted I was about to make my way to the checkout and rush home for some happy hour fraggin when one of the Best Buy workers came up to me and asked me if I had found everything okay. I said "You bet, I can't wait to try this thing in my Dell. Just hope I can figure out how to install it this will be my first pci card upgrade!" The store associate who's name was John, a geeky looking guy who as I soon found out knew his stuff told me "Great glad you found what you were looking for...but just to let you know that is a pci-express video card. It's a newer interface than pci." Damn it! I knew I forgot something! After explaining to him that my Dell only had a pci card slot, no agp, and I had never heard of pci express until he just mentioned it to me (thinking I was in a bit of a jam) he smilingly told me well we do have some PCI cards as well. He gestured towards what I think was a Radeon x1550, but I told him "NO NOT THE RADEON, IT HAS TO BE THE GEFORCE. My friend told me the drivers are unusable and none of his games work PERIOD". Looking a bit confused now John said "OH OKAY well I believe we have at least a couple PCI Geforces as well." After looking around for a bit he hands me a BFG 6200 OC and a PNY 5200. Both the boxes looked pretty sweet and these were quite a bit cheaper than the 8500 I was looking at earlier so I thought maybe I would get away with a steal afterall. I asked John which one was better and he said "Well they both have 256MB memory so lets see here. Ah the 5200 is an FX model. Generally anything FX is better." Well now in even more of a hurry to get home and fire up some games (maybe I'd try the new Crysis or UT3 demos) I thanked him and proceeded to the register to check out. Unfortunately by the time I got home I was too tired to figure out how to install it so I went to bed almost immediately and now I am up early about to get started on it. Wish me luck and what do you think did I get a good deal or what!?

Great deal hands down. Enjoy yourself you lucky dog.

Necromancy is bad, mmm'kay?

I just bought a pile of X1300 128MB cards. At least they are PCI-E though. Cost me $18 + tax each at Microcenter.

buy a 8600GTS when there was a 8800GT right next to it because "GTS is better". BestBuy makes my brain hurt.

What a fool everyone knows the 8800GT is better because it has 200 video card units more than the 8600gts. An S just can't make up for that kind of gap.
