a lasik machine costs around $700,000.00. a Medical Degree costs a significant amount of money. office, staff. shoot, my brother (forgot to mention, he has 4 lasik lasers) has about 30 people working for him and there are only 2 doctors on the staff. everyone else gets salary from the money the 2 doctors pull in.

it's not cheap, he makes good money, don't get me wrong, but it's not cheap to keep a surgery center like that running.

I totally agree- But chances are, your brother has a solid business model he follows and that is why he is above water.

he does. his prices are about the lowest in LA, CA. he does about 40 surgeries / month.

that's his business model. he also has an extremely high success rate (100%) after 27,000+ surgeries.

Simple, yet effective. Many dr's here pump out 7-10 procedure's a day, so you know they are raking in the dough. Alos, any people here choose to lease out the equipment, not go out and buy the lasik equipment.

I've seen how they do it TV......cutting your eyes open...freaks me out.

Anyway, I just started wearing glasses (only lectures and driving), currently at -1.25/-1.5, so I'still have some years to go before they stabalize. I guess I will consider this afterwards.

The guy I went to probably did atleast 10 by the time mine was scheduled, and my appointment was for around noon. I would think that the weekend would be alittle busier than during the weekdays.

As far as halos, I haven't noticed them at all, of course its only been one night so far.

Guess more people here have eye fears than I thought. I'm sort of one of them. Like I said, took me forever to get used to putting contacts in.

I'm -4.0 and am only 18, but I THINK (hope) it's stabilized.

If by "days" you mean only two or three, or even five, then I'd say you're making some pretty good money yourself! :thumbsup:

I don't see the point of risking my eyesight.

Sure it's not a "major" risk, but why take any risk at all with your eyesight as there are other alternatives that work well for most people, i.e. glasses/contacts.

that's why i'm going to start a lasik system in my basement, and skip the medical degree. i figure why go to medical school for all those years if i'm only going to do ONE thing? that's time wasted where i could be making money doing lasik surgery.

If he does 40 surgeries a month, how has he done 27K? MacLasik in the beginning? 😕

Agreed. But for some people only the price seems to matter.

I agree. One of my biggest fears is losing my eyesight. I've looked into this a couple of times, but I'm too much of a worrier. If anything ever goes wrong, it usually will happen to me.

Me too. I just went in for a consultation, and doctor recommended against it. Even with CustomLasik and Intralase my cornea thickness is borderline. Since I'm young, the doc suggested I wait for future procedures to clear FDA. Sucks.

Well for some of us with heavy astigmatism and chronic dry eyes contacts aren't a great solution.

My vision w/ contacts < My vision w/ glasses. Stinks if you are into sports/outdoors.

I'm -7 in one eye and -7.50 in the other. Not quite coke bottle glasses, but close.

I'm also quite the worrier and that's why I haven't done it yet. However, I'm hoping to this year because I'm quite sick of contacts (been wearing them since 83) and glasses (since 77).

There's more to a LASIK tool than a laser pointer and a magnifying glass.
