That's the only reason I haven't done it yet, who the fck goes under the laser based on a pop-up ad? 😕 But based on the explanation of what to expect when it does go well, I think I will go ahead and schedule. The good thing is, being in Boston which is world-reknowned for its healthcare facilities, I can go to Massachusetts General Hospital's Mass. Eye and Ear Infirmary to make sure there's no hackery. Even though I'm sure there'll be a premium to pay going there, you just don't take chances with a sense like sight. :thumbsup:

I had lasik done 6 yrs ago. i was my brothers first patient. he was doing his fellowship at USC. the same time i was having my eyes done, Kiki Vandhewegh (or however you spell his name) was having his eyes done by the surgeon my bro was doing his fellowship under. he did a good job on Kiki but he had to do an enhancement the day after he orginally did the surgery. kiki was a mess and a procedure that usually takes 10 to 15 minutes took like 1 hour. i know because i was delayed for my surgery because i had to wait on the equipment.

it's tough to know where to go, but world renowned is not necessarily the best.

One eye right after the other. Yeah, you're not supposed to rub your eyes for awhile after, couple weeks. My eyes right now don't feel any different than before.

ya i taped protective eye shields over my eyes every night for like 2 months.

from the time I walked in the room till I left the was probably about 10 minutes.

I hate it when you go in for an eye test and they have the thing that blows a poof of air in your eye.

you want your eyes to stabilize before having the surgery done.

enhancements are corrections to your vision. no doctor can predict EXACTLY how your eyes will heal. they are usually pretty close tho. if enough correction does not occur, you can go back to the surgeon, he can lift the flap again and make corrections.

This place had 699 Lasik, that was with no enhancements and better than -3.0 vision using the VISX laser. If you got the 1 year enhancements with the VISX it was like another 600. I went with the next model up(some type of B&L laser) that came with 1 year of enhancements. I could have paid an extra 200 per eye and gotten lifetime enhancements.

What is meant by "enahncements"? Is that like a touch up surgery after a year?

Maybe you should get Zoom teeth whitening, as well. 😀

It sounds like a great surgery but I'm too wimpy. It took me long enough to get comfortable just touching the white of my eye to put contacts in. And on the days I wear my glasses I don't mind them at all like some people do.

I don't think I'll ever do it, but who knows, I may think differently in ten years.

My dad got it done a couple weeks ago. He has to use glasses for close vision, but his far vision is 20/20. It's started adjusting for close vision though, so hopefully he won't need reading glasses indefinitely. He's got these bifocal glasses he got from wal mart. One section of the glasses is for seeing close up, and the other section is just a window with no prescription.

Has anyone's eyes gone south to any degree since they've had it done (past a few years) ?

yeah, that's another one of my concerns. no one even really knows the long-term effects of contact lenses. ugh I can't stand contacts! it's beyond my capabilities to poke myself in the eye every day. I can't stand even the knowledge that I have something ON MY EYE lol. oh well, I'll look at Lasik in another five or ten years 😉

no, what i was told.

regardless of whether i had lasik done or not, by my mid 40's to early 50's, i would lose accomodation and have to get reading glasses.

if i did have the lasik procedure done, i would lose my accomodation a few years earlier than if i didn't have it done, so i would lose my accomodation by my early 40's to late 40's.

i am 40 right now, and i can start to feel the extra strain when going from distance vision to reading. this indicates that within the next 2 or 3 years i will have to get reading glasses.

as to my distance vision, the during the first 6 months there was a gradual increase. my vision got clearer and clearer. since then my vision has been consistent. 20/20 more or less. 😉

I'd love this to be done to my left eye only, since my right is pretty good, but left absolutely blows.

Honestly. My eyesight is okay, but if I close my right, my vision with the left eye only gets TERRIBLE after only about 1 metre.
